magowen – email me your skype address and lets see! 😉

low quality pdf from the STW mag archive reads quite well in Amazon Kindle. Not so good in aldkio – slow to load and buggy zooming. Kindle is quicker, slicker and easier to read proper pages.

epub version will obviously be best for reading, but no big images.

What about use as a video player / games machine for the kids? I’m considering buying a couple for some long car journeys this year. Is 7″ too small for headrest mounting?

It looks like I could get a couple of these for less than £200

the Advanced has the slightly dimmer screen (see the video I posted on the other page)

7″ is fine I guess as Halfords stock loads of 7″ DVD screens for the back of headrests.

here you go Al. sorry for delay, got sidetracked.
Video not great, but it shows that the native keyboard works well. picks up keystrokes accurately and responsively. nice size keys.

Ive then installed swift key, which isnt optimised for a tablet (Id have to buy a different version, I already own this version). The kyboard isnt quite as nicely size but the power of swiftkey is it’s predictive text. Its amazing and really speeds up one finger typing.

you may want to view in full screen to see any detail. Sorry theyre so rubbish.

rangeroy / stoner; questions please re-Ainol Novo 7 Aurora:
Just wondering was marketplace pre-installed on the tablet or did you have to install (if so was it easy?), also does skype work OK? do you think the 8mb works OK if 16mb not available?
    Thanks all feedback appreciated. C

Well my Cube arrived today, so far I’m well impressed! I’m going to have to strip the computer down and get rid of the uneeded software and it’ll all be great!

Right – 2 Ainol Advanced IIs have just arrived from Gadget Freakz.
Quick mucking about leaves this apple fanboi impressed.
Obviously its not up to the quality of an iPad, but for watching videos and playing games on the annual migration from the north of scotland to the south of france, the kids are going to love them.

Now, where do I download iWashCatz 😀

Quick update on my Aurora. I’ve been using it for a few weeks with ice cream sandwich and its been very good, but a bit of memory lag has been frustrating so I’ve just flashed it with really good version of gingerbread 2.3.4 I got from top notch tablets site. Really super slick now and better power management. Will try and post links to the firmware later.

    But this screen is superb

    update…
Using these guides and firmware sources Ive got my tablet on gingerbread for now. Technically a step backwards and doesnt support hardware decoding for now, but soon enough a slick ICS firmware will be out and Ill go back tot that. Until then I have an awesome gingerbread tablet.

nexus 7 with something like AOKP or Omega rom flashed onto it, if you must go 7″ but like others have said it’s not that much of a jump from a 4.5″ phone.

I’m looking at the Asus a700 or Nexus 10 when it’s back in stock.

Does the Ainol (sounds like haemorrhoid cream) have GPS?)

Nexus 7 arrived for me yesterday, it’s going back today on account of it being broken.

no gps on the ainol aurora (sounds more like throbbing arse grapes I think)

Ive just flashed a tidy gingerbread rom back on to my aurora and installed some games and educational stuff for Jr for xmas. Ive had a good year out of it.
Only problem is with the sound. Bit of a glitch which might be some kind of build prop contamination (because it happens on a number of ROMs Ive tried), the sound gets sent to the speaker only when the screen is off.

Its not the end of the world, music etc is fine witht the screen off. Films & games not so good. It means when Jr is playing angry birds I dont have to hear it though 🙂

Nexus 7 is my pressie to me int he new year…
