On the positive side, each infection seems worse than the previous, and I’ve had COVID four times (at least).

    Did you mean ‘worse’ here?

Has a semi-plausible token post about road tyres, though, so at least they’re trying

Given that seems a reasonable post, putting aside a chatgpt effort, you could wonder whose ‘2nd’* profile it is?

*or 3rd,4th,5th etc 🤷🏼‍♂️ or is that the conspiracy in action? (makes you think, 😉)

I also looked at its profile first thing and all the posts seem to be within a couple of minutes or so of each other (now will all be just ‘an hour ago’ or whatever)

Given some are quite lengthy, include links, etc., they’re either a very proficient typist and STW experienced poster to get all the linking right, or had a load of posts written in different tabs to then hit submit on. Why?

Did I miss another iteration of our regular anti-everything poster? Shame. How far along the five stages of griefing the forum did he get this time?

    Apparently reasonable new poster*
    Links to John Campbell videos
Faux victimhood on being called out
    ‘Bedwetter sheeple’ slurs and swears
    Posting porn links

    *Sometimes omitted for efficiency.

I’m surprised to be invited for a Covid vaccination (in addition to flu) this autumn. I’m 62 in Scotland.

I assume I’m considered vulnerable although the letter doesn’t say so.

I’ve had 4 jabs and 1 infection so I’m not unduly concerned but I’ll probably accept the invitation.

    Yes you are.

Mrs_oab was told yesterday that the vaccines continue to be developed, so should be even better this autumn. Perhaps @TiRed can confirm or deny?

Got my winter vaccine invitation through. By delaying my appointment a couple of weeks (to after my 65th birthday in November) I’ll get both flu and Covid vaccines.

Got a flu jag today. Asked hopefully if there was any spare Covid vaccine going, shame to waste it know what I mean? Nope🙁

Had my invitation for my Covid and flu vaccines last week, booked in for October 14.
Not at all bothered by the 5G mind control nanobots – the nearest 5G antenna are either in Swindon, (I don’t think there are any minds over there worth controlling), and Bristol.
At the current rate of rollout by O2, it’s a toss-up as to whether it’s 5g or the heat-death of the universe that arrives in Chippenham first…🥴

New UKHSA data dashboard is up and running. Will be updated weekly. Hospitalisations are rising, likely driven by the new variants. A recent BA.2.28 variant is a move back from the recombinant XBB and would signify a shift in immunogenic profile. there has been new vaccine approvals based on emergent strains, which combined emergent spike proteins with Wuhan legacy strains. Approvals are based on antibody titer generated, rather than prevention of infections (as was the case for the first vaccines).

    https://ukhsa-dashboard.data.gov.uk/topics/covid-19#healthcare

Reporting never went away, it was combined with influenza surveillance.

In other news, my smell has never came back, fatigue and muscle and chest pain has improved, and I am back training (in fact I have even finished in the bunch in a 50+ race). We will see how long the current training survives the winter COVID onslaught. And I seem to now be intolerant to more than two units of alcohol, which is giving me acute sinusitis – likely the site of my COVID URTI damage.

    Whoah!   Hold the front page.

    Firstly:

In other news, my smell has never came back, fatigue and muscle and chest pain has improved, and I am back training (in fact I have even finished in the bunch in a 50+ race).

That’s great news TiRed, I hope it continues!

And I seem to now be intolerant to more than two units of alcohol, which is giving me acute sinusitis – likely the site of my COVID URTI damage.

Unaffected after 3 x Covid in 2022, after a minor throat infection moving to an ear infection in March, I’ve had a lot of fatigue getting steadily better after being accused of whinging and pandering to my coach on here.   As a result and going through the Dr’s protocols I’m currently being testing for Epstien Barr antibodies.   But here’s the thing, I too have had a negative affect with alcohol and beer specifically.  I seem to get overly drunk on 2 pints, and wake up with a raging disproportionate hangover, and even faux hangovers after no drink at all including what I thought was a weirdly – for me – unseasonal hayfever.  So much so that I’m two weeks from abstinence as I try to isolate my symptoms – the hangovers have gone.    My Dr has hinted that if the EB is negative, Long Covid should be considered.

I did admittedly and perhaps stupidly drink wine whilst displaying Covid symptoms, and the Dr is wondering whether my immune system has gone a bit haywire with identifying a “threat” and perhaps thinks alcohol is even worse that it is – is this possible?

I see the scientists behind the mRNA vaccine for covid have got their deserved Nobel Prizes. I have a feeling that the whining on social media may be worse than Liverpool getting a goal ruled out by VAR.

Getting pished on 2 pints sounds like an inexpensive win to me!!

joking aside, ever since I had covid my blood sugar levels have risen massively. I’m near prediabetic levels of hba1c despite not changing my diet and still at same weight. Was 33, now 39. That’s a big swing in 18 months since covid, when for past 8 years it’s been around the 33 mark at my bi annual check up

I bought myself one of those freestyle Libre things to check what was going on, and my blood sugar rises after eating are pretty high, which may be contributing, although they do come down again as they should fairly quickly

glad to hear tired is back on the bike👍

Alcohol seems like it’s one likely trigger for my “post-Covid” fatigue. I’ve found 2 pints is enough to wipe me out for a couple of days or more, though without apparent excessive inebriation during the drinking.

Our doctor’s surgery sent out a recent text saying there’s an increase in their patients- of respiratory infections, cough, fever and sore throat (also in our area lots of new covidcases). They asked patients with any symptoms to wear a mask. Really I feel everyone should wear one, but I’ve just been in the waiting room and out of about 20 people, only myself and one other lady were. Coughing and all sorts going on around. It’s considerate to wear masks for the sake of others imo, in places where there are elderly, infirm or sick people, even if you don’t have to.

I was hoping the mask wearing for colds etc like they do in Asian countries would stick for us, obviously it hasn’t.

Great news you’re out riding again TiRed, been a long road for you that one!

I was in hospital over night a week and a half ago. On a mixed acute medicine ward with heart issues. No masks or extra precautions going on there or in the rest of the hospital for patients or staff. Not unusual for hand sanitizer squeezy boxes on walls to be empty now too.

Mrs_oab was in the hospital yesterday in a room full of day patients being treated. She said despite the ‘please wear a mask’ signs everywhere, only she and the nurses had them on. This is a room full of folk having treatment for immunocompromised patients…

A bit like Matt’s Mrs’ experience, I headed out for my flu & covid boosters in a vacc centre in Forfar on Monday.  Only one other person in the packed waiting area was wearing a mask, although the profile for most current attendees has to include ‘vulnerable’ at this stage.  The staff were mixed; some were, some weren’t.

I’m fortunate (and very happy) to be getting the covid vaccine as I’m still doing front line healthcare worker shifts regularly.  At 59, I wouldn’t qualify otherwise.

Great news you’re out riding again TiRed, been a long road for you that one!

Proper training now – velodrome Monday, club ride x2 and a week in Majorca coming up. The dog is missing his very long walks! And Guinness Zero has been a revelation. My recovery drink of choice. Still get chest and muscle pains and of course nil by nose (and some nasty taste sensations at the moment). I don’t (quite) qualify for a vaccine but would happily have one if offered. I do still test my infections for COVID. Still at 4x, but expecting another over the winter.

The Nobel was very welcome. Moving mRNA from oncology to infectious diseases seems obvious now, but it was never a given. It has moved vaccine technology into a different place and most likely means that responses to new and changing pathogens can be more agile (ban me! – see previous thread 😉 ). Approval of new vaccine variants will become standardised as it is for influenza. Development of therapeutic anti-virals has also not stopped but is not making the news to the same extent.

A few masks on the tube and Elizabeth Line. I don’t but largely because I haven’t one with me. I should really given I sat next to someone who coughed sniffed all the way into town on Monday 🙁

Was awarded to two scientists (not me!) who spent years developing methods to make mRNA stable and administrable as a possible therapeutic or vaccine. This was despite little interest or funding. It’s a great story about perseverance https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-66983060 and features a teddy bear!

The whole booster/seasonal vaccine thing is a bit odd. I’m eligible for a free Covid booster but not a free flu jab
My wife is eligible for a free flu jab and Covid anti-virals because of a health condition, but not a Covid booster

Patrick Grant has been on Desert Island Discs today (judge on Sewing Bee) and his anger at the incompetence/venality of those nominally in charge is a masterpiece of restraint. He lost his father due to the virus in March 2020 before we locked down.

We will make the Tories pay for their greed and incompetence.

I’m confused also.  I have my seasonal flu jab – which I had to ask for this time – next week.  Mrs K has had hers and was offered a Covid jab at the same time, despite the fact you cannot book a Covid jab here.

Mrs K refused the jab on the basis she doesn’t want it complicating her thyroid issues (?)  but I don’t know whether to have one or not this time.  There’s just seems to be some mistrust in the Jab recently.

From the medical professionals? I’ve delayed my winter Flu Jag in order to qualify for the COVID one too (age 65 here in Scotland).

Doesn’t seem to be any more than in previous vaccination rounds. Just the normal hot air.

Got my covid jab three weeks ago and flu jab today. I am feeling a slight urge to support moves towards a shadowy ‘one world government’ and the installation of extra 5G masts in my area, but apart from that, fine.

I think I had it again with my last trip away with work :/ got home and was sent a list of the new symptoms and pretty much had a full house. Was feeling better after a week but not 100% but now ive taken another dive to the point ive had to break out my inhaler.

    From the medical professionals?

I meant the public.   I’ll be having mine, and I should have clarified my two sentences were separate   – I’m doubtful becuase of my EBV diagnosis, but a few moments thought reveals how stupid that is.  I’m sitting here with a raging Cold / mono flare up so a bit thick headed

Getting my borked immune system ready for jab number 8. Wore a mask on the plane last week going to Spain but panicked on the way back when I got on the plane back and realised I didn’t have one in my bag. Mrs S passed Covid onto me at the beginning, before I was ill, but since then she has caught it twice more without me catching it. Lucky or some other reason?

Ah. I do think that there’s a more relaxed attitude to the consequences of being infected. Hence folk not testing, not isolating, not caring. For the majority of folk this probably doesn’t matter. However there’s still the elderly, sick and the immuno-compromised to consider and we also know that a percentage of the young(er) and healthy will suffer from the effects for a long time. I’ll continue to take minimal steps to avoid infection. I just wish the option of a further vaccination was available more widely.

Been back to the States for the first time in… er… 17 years. Adverts for booster shots (new multivarient versions) everywhere… supermarket, cafes, lampposts…

Mask wearing at airports about 1 in 30, if that. So about the same as on trains around here in north of England. We were masked up. Partly to minimise being ill with the prime trails of Sedona waiting for us, and partly due to my travelling companion’s other half having radiotherapy booked on our return. Don’t suspect that masks are effective when so few people are wearing them, but you do what you can, don’t you.

Just wondering if there is any delayed effects of the last vaccination jab. By delay I mean a week!
I had my booster vaccination jab (pfizer XXB)and my flu jab on 8th Oct and all was fine infact I went for a decent xc 3 hour ride afterwards. The following Saturday i started feeling rough with flu like symptoms and also
what feels like one of my RA (rheumatoid arthritis) flare ups. Tested 4 test for covid since and all negative. Haven’t felt properly ok since.
