    I’m guessing its 32T? (9speed).

Depends if you are running single ring – some specialist threaded offset 30t rings around for 1x

It depends on your chainset, down to 28T I think. I’d guess even lower would be possible with the splined >X7 cranks.

Its a single ring set up. I can’t be bothered with a front mech/faff.

The chainset is a latest gen Saint triple.

yeah front mechs are so complicated, best make the bike less rideable.

I ride 1×9 in the Peaks not girlyman south east riding my fishy-friend. I prefer the simplicity.

the only thing simple about 1×9 is the owner.

Not sure what your BCD is but spa cycles is where I’d start looking.

Wont you spin out a lot with one under 32t?

this is a man who suggested a 22:16 SS. 😯

    tom? how are you?

I’d only spin out on flats- I don’t ride anywhere flat, most of the riding is climbing with descents in between- if I pedalled in the descents I’ll pedal strike so 1×9 is a perfect compromise.

If I lived somewhere like the south east I’d run a bigger ring naturally. Don’t forget you also have the rear cassette to play with as well.

it’s a wonder DH riders don’t just have pegs and ditch the whole chain, sprocket thing altogether.

especially to avoid all those pesky pedal strikes.

Do you have a positive contribution or are you angry about something?

Yeah THAT’S the reason why you aren’t pedalling!

yes john, that’s correct, it’s my menstrual cycle that has alerted me to the hora bullometer that has gone off the scale.

    pedal strikes indeed.

bit of a low blow there if you already know the answer.

no, i don’t… but now i’m guessing the answer, it was a toss up between making a comment about his wife, his convertible or his dog…

no, but he did ride off and leave me with a mate who had concussion on the surrey hills once (i didn’t know where i was). it was important he made it back in time to go to John Lewis you see.

Ah… the much utilised John Lewis clause. It sounds like its made a good few appearances over the years, that one. On one occasion its been invoked within 10 minutes of leaving the car park, on the first climb 😆

32/36 (on a 10spd cassette) should give you the same as 30/34 (on a 9spd cassette).

and both work equally well in car parks

I find you an odd character. About 4times I’ve had to respond/explain myside to ‘that day’ along with the picture of me pushing a bike post-hospital stay. You must be late 30’s now. Back on chocolatefoot I went through a bad phase (unfair dismissal/followed by a injury/hospital stay and a crisis of confidence). I avoided anti depressants/tranquilisers. If you know anyone whose been in a dark place you take a real knock. Still I received shit. Really really wearing. Peace.
