On a wet afternoon, I’ve just found 4 or 5 of these worm-like creatures on the wooden bench in the garden. Each is about 5-6cm long, but at best 2mm in diameter. Slightly off-white, light green or yellow in colour.

They’re sort of stuck in the moisture on the bench, waving one end of themsleves around as if ‘sniffing the air’

Anyone tell me what they might be? They’re under a rowan tree (may or may not be relevant)

Fair enough, will steer clear as it’s now nearly 10pm.

Have I really baffled the STW collective with a question? Blimey…

    RFK Jr worm in brain

And your wormy things are possibly horsehair worms, they are parasites that live/hatch inside insects, not harmful to humans/pets

    They are the snifflehoorers.
Sent ahead of the main alien invasion, they search for life samples on the target planet.
All their first contact data is sent back to the main fleet, this lets the supreme beings pinpoint the best landing sites for harvesting.

Looks like @woody2000 may have answered it, thanks. Exact species would be hard to find out, but the generic description fits.  We certainly get no shortage of slugs and snails in that part of the garden under bird feeders, so worms that parasite gastropods would fit the bill.
