I havent seen my bike for several months due to a combination of DIY disasters, babies, broken lights and general laziness.

My friend has lent me his underused turbo to kickstart things but I am baffled by the choice of Sufferfest / 3LC type DVD’s and am so unfit trying to specifically improve my sprinting / hill climbing alone is pointless.

Any personal recommendations for an all round / get me some fitness back training DVD or digital download would be much appreciated.

Purely based on the fact that I have only used Sufferfest ones, Sufferfest. They are well put together, a little tongue in cheek and will reduce you to tears! Combined with TrainerRoad its a fantastic combination.

Pretty much any of the Sufferfest videos will help you get your fitness back, I wouldn’t be too bothered about which one and whether it’s focussed on a particular area.

Do sufferfest DVDs sync with veloreality?

Jekkl – I must admit that I share your cynical head, I would in past years have shunned the turbo option in favour of the great outdoors as quite frankly the last time I was on a turbo it was one of the most soul destroying evenings of my life however in the process of moving house I seem to have lost my gloves, my baselayers, my overshoes and as stated my lights are on the blink. I need to do some exercise and until I locate my gear or buy some new stuff, this is the easiest (and cheapest) option.

I reckon (for some) distractions are bad news on the turbo. I went to all the trouble of setting up the tv and stereo, but hated it. I am in the minority but it is another approach if you dont get along with the vids.
I think as long as I set a goal beforehand (trainerroad?) it is easier to zone out and suffer in silence, with just a speed/power and timer display to stare at.

    Often this…

… is why I spend late night hours on the turbo 🙁 It can be a bit soul destroying though and I really need some specific goal to work for.

Anyway, as has been said TrainerRoad is well worth a look. Helps to have some structure (plan) to the work you’re doing and a way of measuring progress (power based field tests are good). Intervals are good to get a lot of benefit in a time efficient way and makes the sessions more interesting. Pick one of their base programs and work from there.

Sufferfests are ok but I’d not want to do them all the time (can be a bit too full on.) Usually just watch something on the telly or inlayer instead.

TrainerRoad does work well with sufferfest though, giving you power targets along the way. Works with several other videos too.
