What track pump?

Sorry, boring I know… My Blackburn has finally given up the ghost after about 10 years or so. Not so bad as it was only about £30 anyway, but its finally time for a new one.

Don’t wanna spend much money, can’t really afford it, but something half decent that will last another 10 years would be good. Oh, and prefer a slightly larger volume, lower pressure pump for seating tubeless if possible. But not prepared to spend silly money just for the pleasure.

So what to buy?

Looks ideal except, I don’t need mega high pressure, but I do have a road bike with 25c tyres too so ideally needs to go to 100-110psi, so 75psi is slightly too low.

It’s really pretty worn. Needs new shaft, new head, gauge is still ok, but I looked into the replacement parts costs, and to be honest, it’s time to just buy a new one.

Anyone know anything about this super cheap one…?

I do love my Joe Blow, it just keeps on going, rebuilt it once with a £2 kit, must be 8 years old…

but it doesn’t suit your needs, can I suggest as a cheap and cheerful unit, this Halfords unit (up to 120psi), though I thought it was cheaper, m8 has one and it has an huge volume. Several ppl have tried it and noted (without prompting) the lack of effort (pumping) required to inflate tyres. Worth taking a gander if your passing a halfords.

Spooky our Blackburn trackpump of ten odd years gave up on Friday too … 😯 Just ordered a Joe Blow Sprint off Evans in the sale. They have a good range of not silly money options.

Was in Halfords only 3hrs ago, looking at that pump. Doesn’t look bad for the money actually. Looks suspiciously like a red version of the green thing I’ve linked to on CRC up there though!

it wouldn’t surprise me Mark, but the photo don’t seemingly show it to have the girth, as the Halford jobby.
Can’t comment on it longevity, other than to say he’s has had it at least 2 trouble free years

I read the title as ‘What pump track’, thought it was a strange question 😆

Just got a bontrager supercharger, £29.99 from the lbs. Dial goes to 160psi and feels well made too! The lbs have been using them for a few months now so they can take some use!

I like the halfords deal below that pump.For 1p less you get a can of loverly smelling gt85 thrown in. 😉

My 10 year old Blackburn died last week as well now they are posed to have a “lifetime no quibble warrenty ” but i dont hold out much hope as my LBS said Madsion are not the best at warrentys etc

That looks lime the same pump that wiggle are selling for 3 quid more .

Think iam goin to take the plunge and get one of those shiny Lezeyne pumps .

I’ve have one of the Halfords ‘Bikehut’ ones for a good number of years. Still pumps up just fine despite being kicked round the garage

Would take it to your LBS for warranty, I had an old Blackburn mini pump which died a few months ago, must have been about 10 years old, no receipt, can’t remember when I bought it from, but Madison via my LBS sent a new Airstick as replacement. Great warranty service from them.

Whatever you buy….calibrate the gauge….price is no guarantee of accuracy.

Just bought the Airwave one to replace the utterly tosh one I bought from Aldi in one of their offers last month or so. Should have know a £6 pump would be useless..

Just been and bought the bright red one from Halfords. 20% off if you order online and collect in store, so was just over £18.

Anyway, initial impressions are very good. It pumps up VERY fast. Nice high volume pump for sure, and seems well enough made. Will try my LBS out regarding a warranty for my Blackburn, if it works out then I’ll still have a good high pressure pump as well as my new high volume one.

Setup 2 tyres tubeless tonight with the new Halfords Special trackpump. That was the easiest I’ve ever experienced to get a tubeless tyre to seat! Just a few quick pumps and it had sealed!

Worthwhile as an investment purely just as a specialist tubeless pump. I did try pumping my road bike tyres with it, but oh my god it’s hard owing to the high volume! Even getting past 60psi was quite firm, it’s definitely good for low pressure MTB tyres but not so much for road bikes.

Agree with this, although the steel main tube of mine perforated at the base after 4 years 11 months of use, covered by 5 year warranty, and received a new one a week ago.
