Picked up my new custom Genesis Croix de Fer today but cannot get my 700×32 Schwalbe marathon plus tyres to sit right on the stans crest 29er rims. I know the rims are mtb rims but in the absence of any disc only road/cross wheelsets these were recommended. I cannot even get a continental 700×35 onto the rim and the marathons are a tight fit. Obviously cannot go for a mtb tyre as it is a cross bike with less clearance and I will mostly be using it on the road.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Stan’s rims have a deeper and more robust bead seat than normal rims.

If you haven’t done so yet, try letting the tyre down, putting some soapy water round the tyre bead and pumping it up again. It should “snap” into place if you do that so it sits evenly on the rim.

29er and 700c stuff is interchangeable. It’s not a compatibility issue, it’s just that Crest rims are really tight.

I’m running 28mm Conti Gatorz on Stan’s Arch 29 rims.
