I have become lazy and shave about once a week now. Keep toying with the idea of letting it go 2 weeks but it gets so damn itchy it just has to go.

I am quite a clean person, so its not that I dont wash. Is it just build up of natural oils in hair that would normally be there causing skin irritation?

Does the itching subside after a certain length of growth or is it always there?

I’m guessing it’s a case of getting used to it and learning to ignore it…a few guys I work with have full on lumberjack kind of beards and you’ll never see them itching it, where as like yourself if I leave it any longer than a week I start itching…

apparently it subsides as its usually the hairs curling back at ya, as they get longer its less irritating. the point at which this happens seems to vary and ive never reached that point within 3 weeks . Movember mustache was getting comfyish just before it got shaved off

My itchyness subsides after about 1.5-2weeks by which time the mrs is moaning at me so I shave it off as the latter is unbearable

Hair conditioner worked for me. Does quite a good job of stopping the itch.

mine grows straight out so it doesn’t start to get itchy until the hairs get longer and start to curl/grow along the face. this is at about 6 weeks and it gets bothersome.
not sure you can do a lot about it apart from sit it out until it stops.

I find clippering the neck, cheeks and the bits that touch my nose stops it itching.

If you’re complaining about an itchy beard, you don’t deserve to wear one 🙂

(7 days in here, and it has stopped itching. I shampooed it to make it softer 😳 )

I find using conditioner is best. As above, it’s the hairs curling back into the skin that mainly cause the itch, try combing it too. Hth.

condioner, also an exfoliating face wash sometimes helps. also, don’t scratch, rub. It’s not an itch, its a deep thought materialising and needs to be coaxed out with gentle rubbing.

I grew a beard over 4 months once took me about 5 days for the itching to start itched for about 2/3days then stopped i use to buzz the hair off that touched my lip an would lightly trim the very top once a month to see if i could encourage any growth was quite a talking point i was 25 then an looked like a propper tramp i styled it into a porn tash the last week i had it an a Hitler tash the day it went. ….. The Hitler tash wasn’t so popular

It’s the lice and the bits of rotting food. Eventually you’ll learn to ignore them

I’ve been trying to be a man for years now. I’ve always looked at myself in the mirror and thought “shave gowddamit” and so for many a year have done just that.
However I saw a piccy of a bloke in a mag and MrsBouy (who seems to like stubble, says it matures a man and all that) said, “that’s what you’d look like is that”.
So… I’ve been in training, I’ve left the growth for a max 2 weeks each time and gotten used to it, it grows a bit patchy but over the last 12 weeks or so as I’ve progressed growing it for longer periods it has actually started to grow in a uniform kinda way, which I find rather good.
I do however get to the point about 2 weeks in and blinkin ek does it itch. MrsBouy says I should buy some beard trimmers, and I’ll do that, so I guess I just have to go through the pain/itch barrier and become George Michael… with longer hair.
Thing is mind, I do work in a very conservative office, I look all London as it is..

Beards are weird. Stubble doubly so. Shave for god’s sake!!!

Never trust a man with a beard my old mum used to say to me (the old man had a beard).

Thy do itch a bit during the transition from stubble to full curly twisty stuff, so you either go with designer stubble (tolerable) or wait, endure the itchiest of stuff growing in it until the moment arrives when you can enjoy your food, drink or other oral diversions for several hours after in your bearded luxuriance.

But be warned, lots of women folk think men with beards are of bad character and have something to hide.

Please see my post above. If you must grow a beard, at least MTFU first.

Meh, I meet the Northern bit, but I also own an open canoe and sandals. Ergo I should have a beard.
