You can get a bike in most small cars, depends how inconvenient you want it to be.
I find hatchbacks easier than small estates, due to the larger door hole,

I’d probably look at a MPV-ish car of some kind since they’re very unfashionable at the moment. Depends what size you’re after, but perhaps a Nissan Note if you want smaller and something like a Touran if you want to go bigger. Avoid Ford/Volvo Powershift automatics, they will break.

I like this. How do you make a Touran Cross? Take it form the salt-free roads of Japan and make it live out its days in the UK.

Great cars, we decided to get rid of one of our cars last week and I binned off a Honda frv to keep the roomster as I prefer driving it and it carries bikes better.

Seems to be my default answer to everything, but a Berlingo/Partner multispace with a petrol engine. Or a Nissan Cube just cos they look ace.

It might seem like a leftfield choice, and not entirely what you specified, but have you considered grafting the front end of a Citroen DS onto a Porsche?

Japan? It’s a Volkswagen. What would it be doing in Japan?

Apart from that, Tourans are fine, as reliable as any VW that’s properly maintained, and for the sort of driving it’s being used for, an auto or semi-auto is essential, and the VAG DSG ‘boxes are as good, if not better than anyone else’s.

My EcoSport has a semiautomatic ’box, and it’s a very smooth shifting unit, but the VAG ‘box is really very good. One oddity with the Touran, at least I think it was a Touran, and that’s the bonnet release catch – I spent some time trying to find it on a car I was picking up down in Cornwall, and I needed to check the battery and fluid levels. I asked one of the staff and he had to think for a few seconds, and, somewhat counterintuitively, it’s down in the door pocket… yeah, I know, who’d a thunk it!

They don’t only drive Skylines and tiny Kei cars in Japan.
