What are the coolest car names?

I’ll kick off with a couple of the obvious ones:

Renault Megane – Purely becuase induces thoughts of cheap plastic, unreliable electrics and French indifference.

Ever noticed how the coolest names rarely have cars that live up to it?

Hillman had the Hunter and the Avenger. Who wouldn’t want to drive an Avenger?! (Anyone who saw it, that’s who)

The tradition continues to this day, only with fast-sounding names. The slowest cars on the road are invariably ones with names like “Swift.” I blame the Allegro.

The Ford Probe. Gives a good indication of who might be driving one.

In fact, I’m going to adopt that as a new term of abuse. You Probe!! 😀

I always liked Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls Royce Phantom. ‘Superveloce’ and ‘Superleggera’ are pretty cool suffixes, too.

Subaru Impreza is memorably awful.

Only because it was originally launched as the Honda Fitta, until they realised fitta means fanny in Swedish and Norwegian.

Mitsubishi Pajero – always makes me laugh. Wonder how many drivers know the slang meaning of the name 😆

Didn’t the Pinto become the Punto, because “pinto” is slang for “small penis” in Mexico or some such? Or is that just an urban myth?

Bikes get the best names. Hayabusa sounds like a weapon you’d use to kill someone (ha, irony). It’s “Peregrine Falcon” in Japanese too, just in case it wasn’t already cool enough.

I used to call my old shogun wilbur. 😀

The Toyota MR2 was called the MR in France.

This was to avoid it being called the Toyota em air deux. I like that one!

It was designed as a Blackbird killer as well – as the Honda Blackbird was the fastest bike before the Hayabusa.

So “our hayabusa eats your blackbird for breakfast”

I don’t know about coolest – but the Rover Streetwise must be the most ironic.
