I know it’s basic, cheap and plastic, but I really like this new one for me. My old Casio threw a proper wobbler last week, and even getting a new battery in did not solve a random beeping and oddities on the screen.

This is my functional watch for the hill and trails. I’ve had Timex before when I used to sail and this one has reminded me that it’s the antithesis of Casio – clean design, few random words printed on it, and really intuitive to use.

I like that, it’s like the Casio F91 – it just works

    it’s like the Casio F91

Except the display is much bigger and far more legible, and the backlighting is actually effective. I know it was a game changer in its day and is still revered by many but with my ageing eyesight the F91 is a pointless relic.

    The A168 though…

Hurrah, the forum, it’s working again!
Right, I received the new woven strap for my Casio earlier today, and I’m very pleased with it. The yellow actually matches the yellow of the case, and it’s nice and cheerful for the warmer weather. I’ve got a plain black one and one that’s more blue, grey, green with some orange, and because the springbars have a little tag on them with a slot in the strap end they’re a doddle to swap around.

And cheap, at around £8 or so.

    Wow, YMMV to the max.

Liking todays watches, I do like Matt’s, but as a fat old knacker I can’t really get away with wearing that type of watch. I feel like an imposter even wearing my Garmin watch!

Also Counts has got me thinking about a bright coloured G Shock…..hmmm, will have a look around. Was going to buy another Nite watch but think a more colourful option is needed. (I have an orange faced Nite watch already)

    🤣

My entire life wearing a watch has been entirely monochrome, that’s at least 60 years, although there may have been the odd coloured stripe here or there, so I feel it’s well past time I wore something that might be best described as ‘gaudy’! 😁🌈

I bought one of those straps for my Suunto on a whim. That big black adaptor/luglump thing seemed to defeat the purpose of a funky lightweight strap for me. It would look much better/full gaudiness if somehow the fabric connected directly to the lugs.

I’ve bough two watches over the last couple of months, both so I can monitor my blood sugar level – started on an insulin pump three months ago.

On the left a Fitbit Versa2 from eBay for £72 (daily wearer to work where it does get beaten up a bit) and on the right a much newer Garmin Instinct 2 which I wear outside of work.

I sold an older Garmin Instinct Surf Solar on eBay a few days ago, losing only £14 since buying it direct from Garmin in December 2021!

Love that Chopard Traveller One. I’ve seen the taupe’y version a few times and would have that in my collection in a heartbeat. The blue looks equally nice!

Not a guilty fantasy as I actually own this, and its bloody brilliant:

@kamakazie, yes, both steel models are very nice – standard black ‘n orange and the blue. The platinum (in addition to being 50k…) has a blue I’m not keen on, and there is no improved finishing to the movement. There is also a DLC black steel model which they had in stock but not at all my cup of tea. For those who don’t know the Louis Cottier worldtimer system, here is a quick review of the blue steel version – https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=H-15SeiY0Mk. It can be done via a single crown though, which I prefer. So, I like worldtimers, despite the clutter, and would use it regularly for work calls around the world but the only ones I really like are Patek and VC, which aren’t options. I do have a solution, which I’ll post here soon!

I think it might have actually been the GMT One which I’ve seen as I can’t spot a Traveller with the right sort of dial colours.

Ah yes, they had those in stock. Also very smart and obviously much more legible, though I have a yearning for worldtime!

I like the Brown one in Kamakazie’s post, that’d be my pick.

So packing up ready for sale, I wondered in an antithesis to the thread have I already got a GADA I don’t value too much which I should make use of?

    IMG_5336

It’s accurate, sapphire, a little chintzy and although I wanted a non dive bezel this is discrete.  🤷‍♂️

At the more affordable end of the worldtimer genre I picked up one of these a couple of years back – only slightly influenced by my weakness for a green dial! That dial looks a little flat in this picture but is really quite lovely in sunlight,

I was looking at a lovely world timer a few weeks back, I think it was a Longines or similar, I’ll try to find it.

@Kryton, was it the Frederique Constant? https://frederiqueconstant.com/fr/watches/collection/manufacture/manufacture_classic-worldtimer/fc-718nwm4h6/

Looks nice but the calendar covers the antinodal locations! Also, I don’t think the hour hand can move independently.

Most amazing mechanism is the VC, which can do all 37 times zones, including half and quarters, with the minute and hour hands snapping to the correct position for each variation. I work in India and (formerly) Myanmar, which have 30 minute offsets. I don’t like the Overseas case but, in any event, all unaffordable!

It was that yes! Good guess, I was spending time on the Fred site looking at the Classic 3 hander.  That’s lovely, I really like that

omega have a new one also but IIRC you aren’t a fan of omega?

Unfortunately not so much, as there is such a big gap between the contra-rotating ring and the city names. Ball make a nice one, in a diving case and very affordable but I already have a Ball and didn’t need a ‘daily’. I want, YES I WANT (can you hear that at the back?), a bling-meister for summer parties etc! I have started the new obsession of associating watches and pocket knives, and while the 5015 could arguably match up with some techy futuristic super-steel blade with a titanium grip, I’m also tempted to get a short sabre, for opening bottles of champagne….

A good reminder IGM thanks and nice….   I have a black sailcloth in the same colours as I wanted it waterproof ready…

    You’re right, it looks better.

Excellent. Both more grown up and lower key.

    And agreed – waterproof.

Where did that sailcloth one come from?

    Kryton57
    Full Member

From Geckota themselves, it’s the Phalanx QR Sailcloth.

It does have a strong taper, 20mm to 16mm which isn’t for everyone.

Edit: whilst changing the strap I noticed and remembered these gilt versions were a limited run of 100.   So that’s 2% of them on the forum, maybe 3 ‘cause I’m sure a while ago there was another chap with one.

@pisco – not possible, and the majority of the big black thing is the fitting on the end of the strap, the actual adapter to allow the strap to fit the watch is the thin metal strip with right-angled ends for the spring bars; I don’t think there’s any way that the nylon could be attached to the watch any other way. There’s just not enough room to fit something like a ZULU/NATO strap to a Casio without an adapter, and the adapter I found for my old Casio analog is horribly clunky and just doesn’t fit very well – this system is far superior, simpler and far easier to swap straps.

The Casio with the old style adapter is on the far left in this photo, you can see how bulky and clunky it is; that was the only option available until these new straps and adapters became available.

This came up on IG as I was scrolling through my normal feed of dogs and mountain bikes 😉 I am a sucker for a blue dial, but since I already have one Torgeon Chrono of the same size (also blue dial, brown leather strap) and my super light Citizen diver (unsurprisingly a blue dial!), I have no need for it at all.

Plus I wear my Fenix 90% of the time… that blue tho, it’s calling to me 🙂

Edit: Blimey didn’t expect the image to be the size of a carriage clock!

I had one, it’s a very big watch lug to lug, unless you have large wrists – over 7.5 – it won’t look great (YMMV).  I have 6.5 in ch wrists and sold it on.

Ah good to know. I have wimpy wrists. My plan was to try one on next time I’m in Birmingham, but sounds like you saved me a trip!

Fifty Fathoms arrived this morning. It will certainly not be a daily wearer but I will plonk it in the sea next week in Dorset.

    Very nice @gaidong!

So, NWD for me also today.   First of all, some of May know i like a little storyboarding to go with my watches, so here’s the hint/back-drop:

    IMG_5389

So, recently I was looking for a GADA, and specifically something for work that is pick up and go, and avoids the hefty weight of the Vajoux 7750 in my Aquaracer while I’m waving my arms for sales presentations 🙂   Also, a while back I mentioned and have maintain an eye for a Moonphase, and all the talk of world timers got me exited, so it came to pass that I spotted something on sale that covered all those bases:

    IMG_5394

Yep the Citizen Tsuki-yomi moon phase world timer watch.    And it has the added benefit of being Titanium and bloody light:

    IMG_5393

And so you don’t need the manual, crown out to first position and turn the indicating second hand to the position indicated on the back:

    IMG_5395

I bloody loves it I do! ☺️.  It replace my AT Chrono which will be in the classifieds shortly.

Where’s good for replacement leather straps? I want to get over for dress watch, plain brown leather, but nothing too chunky
