Wondering if there is any apps for android for walking routes. Usually buy an aa walking guide if we go to the lake district or peak district etc but wondered if there would be an app which does something similar ?

I also use Back Country Nav, works off OS 1:25K Multimap in the UK, costs one off £6.99 and you can download (on wifi at home or off your phone data allowance) the map areas you want to use in areas without data signal, then delete them afterwards or keep them depending on phone memory. Overlay routes downloaded off the internet, record your own routes etc etc. I'm not aware of a BCN database of routes you can ref, but you can download and overlay .gps routes from other internet sources (and most certainly other formats). They have a 3 week free trial if you want to try it out (or they did).

Viewranger does. There are proper guided routes with pics and descriptions or simple gox files you can follow. Some are professionally created, others user made.

I missed a few full stops in my last post. ....

I've not used an all in one app but some walking Web sites have a map you can copy it's just a case of overlaying the image. The best walks tend to be on the local areas tourist information sites visit Wales ect

I'm not aware of a BCN routes database, but you can search the internet for recommended routes in the area you are visiting and they usually have a gps file of that route to download. You can then overlay it on BCN. I'm a bit useless with tech, but it's reasonably straightforward to save a gps file from a website and then download it to then overlay it to appear on your phone BCN maps.

http://www.everytrail.com/ ?
Has routes and also guides. The guides you can send to an app on the phone, complete with annotations at each waypoint.

Like any other route database, though, it's all user submitted, so there's an element of luck as to whether someone has created a guide where you want.
