Just had an SMS from Vodafone – they are apparently putting up line rental prices from November 1st, which for me is mid-contract. Anyone else get this?

The actual increase is fairly trivial, for me 90p a month, but if you assume 10m contract customers in the UK, that’s an additional 100m pounds or so a year in revenue.

I’m a bit p*ssed off about it, a contract is a contract, we agreed the monthly cost and term up front. I’m sure they wouldn’t be happy if I decided to reduce the amount I paid . . .

It’s a pain in the nads but they can do it. It’s in your contract. I got it too. Lot of companies are doing it, had a letter today from Sky saying a similar thing.

A contract is a contract and that contract will have a clause in it saying that subject to a minimum notice period, say 28 days, they are free to raise their prices.

They all say the same thing so it’s a closed shop. If you want a nice new phone what r u going to do. Bet you didn’t read it? I didnt read mine.

You probably agreed to let them do what ever they wanted so long as they gave you suitable notice in the contract.

What does your contract actually say about price changes? Is there a version online?

You might be able to exit the contract without penalty or to keep the original contract.

No, the contract states that they can increase costs by less than RPI (which they are doing, funny that) with a couple of weeks notice. If the increase is more than the RPI I can cancel.

Like most people, I didn’t read the contract properly.

What is annoying is the total revenue this will generate for Vodafone, especially as they are making huge cost savings since takeing over Cable & Wireless. They don’t need the money.

They did this to me last year or so. In their contract there is a get out clause that if they put the price up by more than 10%, then you can cancel your contract. I know a few people who cancelled there contract and got to keep their phone when the stopped doing unlimited data.

@90p this probably wont apply to you.
