Have a bit of a Google for fur production/farming practices.

Hmmm. Could I suggest people watch Hogwood (Netflix) first. That’ll help set your bar for animal welfare. If you decide that yes, eating pig muscle tissue is still the right thing for you then do Kayak’s suggested googling for fur too. If you are happy with the first moral dilemma with the pigs, I’d encourage you to press on and do the fur thing too – just go all in and be consistent.

Or…..if fur ethics worry you…spend a bit of time wondering if you are just normalised to animal welfare issues for your plate.

Yep, simple case of want versus need. Don’t need to eat meat, don’t need to wear fur/leather, don’t need stuffed animals in the house and so on. People will make excuses for why the want is justified (especially meat eaters) but it is all just bullshit. I haven’t eaten meat for 40 years so clearly don’t need it just like I don’t need a fur coat.

Yeah shocking isn’t it. They’ve been falling back on that rational for the last 2 1/2 million years.

There is nothing wrong with eating a balanced diet of meat and veg. Claiming one predominantly over the other is pretty much fundamentalism

If someone bought a new fur coat I’d be disgusted in them. But given its not new, the animals are dead anyway long ago, why not wear it. If you don’t some poor kid somewhere will probably be suffering stitching one together out of fake fur for her to buy.

Caveat is others may judge. Although can you actually tell the difference between fake and real fur nowadays? If not just say it’s fake..

As long as you’re ok with how the animals are treated and the additional environmental impact, sure.

My gran gave my mum a mink coat before she died. Its a lovely thing and obviously originally bought decades ago (I’m guessing 50+ years), long before there were protests about such things. A very different world. My mum won’t wear it in this country, but does take it on holiday with her when she goes skiing. Apparently they’re a bit less judgemental about fur wearing in Chamonix. Who’d have thunk it?

I’ve got a proper rabbit fur cossak hat that I bought in Romania. I wouldn’t think twice about eating rabbit, so it’d be a bit hypocritical of me to get all pearl-clutchy about wearing it. It is toasty warm and only comes out when its absolutely effing freezing. Mrs Binners absolutely hates it!
