@Northwind It sounds like Fox (Fox!) called AZ too early. There is still a load of postal votes to call but… the ones that were closer to the deadline are more likely to be Republican… except that lots of registered Republicans in AZ apparently vote Democrat.

There’s a good bit on the FiveThirtyEight live feed about this; nothing I can link to though.

@kelvin That depends whether he’s won AZ or not, and he’d still need at least NV to win. If he wins PA even without AZ he’s over the line.

@Mat, it seems a long shot but apparently in one of those weird things that happens, they know that there’s about 120000 votes still to be counted for “overwhelmingly Democrat” areas in Atlanta.

But I’ve got to be honest, I really struggle to keep track of what’s being counted where, you never really know if news is totally current. What I do know, is that every time you google Georgia, you get a story about how South Georgia is about to be rammed by the biggest iceberg in the world, and the penguins are very concerned. Reckon Biden could take Georgia still?

That’s what I’ve been wondering. It looks like there’s a decent chunk of votes still to be counted in Dekalb County. Which is a Dem area. It would be nice to get a couple of other states to help seal things (assuming AZ and NV go to Biden).

Ahh, it seems like a lot of the confusion in Arizona is because someone got the total votes cast numbers wrong, and there’s actually still a bunch more votes in play than was thought earlier on when people were getting bullish. PLus, you know, other american weirdness.

I can’t see the senate being flipped so the next presidential term will clearly show that McConnell, as I posted last night, is the most dangerous person in the US.

Overall this has been a really poor performance by the Dems; one example is their failure to recognise that Latinos are not one homogenous group – their country of origin informs their view of ‘socialism’ which trump and his surrogates shouted about at every opportunity. Biden and his team failed to effectively combat that narrative.
Will be good to see trump out of the WH but Biden will have a real mountain to climb.

I have to admit to not being wholly familiar with the US election system; I kind of get it, but perhaps not the intricacies…..but what on Earth is going on with postal votes?

As I understand it, the Republicans passed a law that mail-in ballots couldn’t be counted early. But now, the Republicans are saying they can’t keep counting mail-in votes because election day is over…
The whole thing sounds nuts. What sort of democracy is that?

He will tell him that anything he gets through the Senate will get vetoed do hard his turtle relatives will feel it and he doesn’t have the numbers to overrule it.

States set the election rules. Some count early, some count late, some allow Ballots postmarked on election day, some have to have them returned by election day. So the State sets the rulea to favour the federal party of the party in power in the state. See also gerrymandering, voter suppression etc.

It works exactly the way they want it to. Although the republicans have more of a history of shenanigans.

Apparently one of the issues with the mail in ballots is they know how many went out but not how many came back. Plus, at least in some states, you could request a mail in ballot but then change your mind and vote in person. Do they don’t know how many people did that.

I love that Stop The Count video up there. One lady has face shield written on her face shield, classy and there are others who appear to not know why they are shouting stop the count. People are really **** stupid.
