    Is it legal to drive on public roads with people in the flat bed bit of a pick up truck?

    There are benches down the sides but no seat belts.

    I grew up on a farm 150 yards from the NOrth Yorkshire police headquarters and have done it 1000's of times and not been told otherwise.

    Well there are 15 of us, one doublecab pick up, a party and we are all too sensible to drink and drive so if we can get away with one nominated driver it would be good.

    I would be very suprised if its not totally illegal. What year is the pickup – older vehicles don't need seatbelts in the back but recent ones do. It will only be insured for a specific number of people. et etc

    I think if theres alot of you pissed i'm sure they might find something to do you for.

    Just ring the police and ask. if they its fine get the coppers name and do what you want.

    make sure you where headress and carry large machine guns, I think that makes it legal. A Toyota HiLux is preferable.

    to summarise;

    It's illegal.

    The insurance will be invalid as they're not being carried in seats that the vehicle was type approved with.

    You might get away with it but if you get stopped the driver's going to be in trouble.

    Illegal as ****, for bleedin' obvious reasons.

    if they its fine get the coppers name and do what you want.

    "PC Smith said I could do it" isn't gonna convince any magistrate.

    Holy crap.

    Suicidally dangerous! One emergency stop and your mates are scattered all over the road like cabbages.

    *shudder*

    Illegal for a bloody good reason, nothing to do with Brown's Britain.

    🙄 completely illegal and with good reason. If you're old enough to have been involved in an accident in a van with bench seats and no seatbelts you'll know that even 10mph bloodywell hurts, and thats with a roof to stop you coming out.
