transferring data from a gopro without a computer??

Hey folks. i got a gopro for chrimbo and im taking it on a boarding holiday next week. my dilemma is, without taking a laptop with me, how/what can i save my files on? ive got a 32gb card, and have been told that will give me 4hrs at 1080p 30fps. would probably be looking at using at least 3 cards worth. I dont want to buy 3 cards though! Is there an external HDD thats got a sd card input it can read from etc? 😕

Yeh, I’ve seen this, but wasn’t planning on spending that much. It looks like it’s either that or a 7″ netbook . .

You thought an external HDD would be cheaper than 2 x 32GB SD cards?

3 32Gb SD cards will cost you less than £30, it means you have always have spares I can’t see the problem.

You could use an Android phone. I think a lot of them (i know my Sony Z1 does) can use a USB “On-The-Go” cable in the micro-USB port which can connect to a HD.

So you’d put the microSD into the phone’s memory card slot, then transfer to a HDD plugged into the micro-USB port

I think you can use the GoPro app to play clips directly off the camera and delete the crap ones.

Any reason why? Seems like your cheapest option by far if you are determined to take that much footage.

Be careful using ‘cheap’ SD cards as they may not have the write-speed needed for HD video.

Even quality high speed Class 10 or UHS-1 cards from reputable companies shouldn’t break the bank these days.

Unless you can edit and crop the clips you have taken and have time to review all of them before deleting them it’s very easy to get lots of footage that may be 70% crap but the 30% good stuff can be right in the middle of the rest. Multiple cards looks like the best option but make sure they are big enough to do a couple of days/battery charges as you don’t want to be opening it up out on the slopes.
