I am thinking of the state of the trails, and what proportion of the time I would be pushing the bike through mud. Also, there are a few streams to cross. Does anyone know the trail?

There is an amber alert for tomorrow regarding the rain. “Only” thunderstorms for Sunday and Monday.

    Thanks

you may want to consider how you are going to cross some rivers (formerly known as streams). Go for it but take your water wings.

Did it in early May after a couple of weeks of rain, it was hard work on the section across the hillsides West of Lloyney to Llanbadarn Fynydd. The river Irthon at Llanbadarn can be by-passed over a bridge. The climb out of Bwylch Y Sarnau will be horrible. The stream crossings I would be cautious of are at the top of the Elan Valley at Claerwen and I would definitely use the road before Claerwen Dam rather than the RUPP which is waterlogged at the best of times. All in all it will be miserable.

I did go for it and it was glorious! I had to lift the bike to cross a couple of streams, but it was very manageable with water just above knee height. It is amazing how much water the ground vegetation can take up without breaking up into mud.

    Thanks for the advice

Glad you enjoyed it. I’m thinking of doing it this summer. Anyone ridden it ss and if so did you gear down, or just walk lots of hills?
