    Evening.

    How do these actually work?

We have a detachable witter tow bar on our car, do tow bar mounted racks just clamp round the ball, or is there more to it than that?

Do you have to use any tools to fasten it on, or o you just drop the rack on?

I’ve got a Thule you have to adjust it the first time you use it then it’s just a case of dropping it on the ball the pushing the lever down to clamp it and thats it.

Our cheapish Thule needs a spanner to tighten a nut against the ball. More expensive ones use a handle / lever set up that locks in place after you initially set it.

Got a three bike one from decathlon, think it was around 170 quid plus buying another number plate for the integrated light board, dropped on straight out of the box
There are two cast parts that go on the towbar ball first and then the carrier drops on that and two bars push down and lock to tighten everything up
Very simple on and off in minutes , because i drive a 4×4 roofmounts are a PITA due to tge height- this has been a revelation

Its made by mont blanc for decathlon

The only downside are the wheels straps that were too small for 2.4 tyres but sourced some more for a couple of quid

Heres a few pics so you get the idea- this is a 4 bike but just the same

I got my Aiston rack custom made to bolt to the chassis instead of the using the towbar.

    Sturdy.

Mine is like this too, but it is very quick and easy. Then you plug the electrics in.

I did worry how just one bolt can hold it all in place but it hasn’t fell off yet, even going over speed bumps.

As above, The long black handle is the lever that clamps the rack onto the ball

and the long shaft with the two handles tightens up a nut that sits just below the ball to set the angle of the platform
