Last night they where discussing Sheffield, and asked for somebody to come up to the presenters, the young chap who came up,decided to extend his arm round James May,this caused the other two so called adults to jump up,and make various comments, worthy of a juunior school class, hammond even made a show of refusing to sit on the same seat as the young lad had just vacated. For whatever reason.

The comments where intended to be veiled inuendo about the lads sexuality, and his freindship towards James May.

Seems as if Homophobia is still rife in the middle-aged,middle class,BBC.

They wern't discussing sheffield at that point but a fizzing feel just behind your penis.

Yeah the middle-aged, middle-class 'lads' of Top Gear are quite embarrassingly cringy to watch sometimes – can be entertaining sometimes though. I was watching one on Dave the other day where they were making thinly veiled sniggery comments about some car that had been owned by Elton John and Liberace etc and what that implied about owning one.

But homophobia is fine, criticizing them for it is political correctness gone mad.

just showed them to have a very poor level of natural wit IMO.

ok as presenters (just), but as on the spot spontaneous comedians, they are clearly lacking.

hence the whole show now coming accross as an over-scripted bizarre farce.

Had it of been a fat lass with a moustache they wouldn't of wanted a hug either.

You'd be calling them fattist now presumably?

If you don't understand how humour works don't watch a comedy show.

It is part of their latest, year long challenge to see who can become the most annoying Top Gear presenter.

So is it ok,to refuse to sit down on a seat, that may have been sat on by a possibly gay man.

I think they might just be saying that making jokes about gay people is not funny …Do you still laugh at racist jokes then 5th? or have you , at least partly , said farewell to 70's?

Get over yourself. You know what top gear humour is, there are a hundred other channels, make a choice.

If you really think that going 'urghh you're a gay get away from me' is high-brow humour then you have a lot of growing up to do.

If you're looking for high-brow anything you won't find it on top gear.

No but apparently you have to 'understand how humour works'. Personally I'd just quite like to watch a light-hearted programme about cars without childish homophobia.

Top Gear isn't very good. It's not even funny. It's the McDonald's of TV.

Chimps on TV motoring show not world class comedic actors shocker!

In the same way musichall isn't the same as opera, but its always been more lucrative to be popular over being a class act.

have you asked any gay people from sheffield if they were offended, or are you just being offended for them?

lots of touchy folk about these days.
dont mind a non pc joke me,it depends whats funny about it.more often than not it the wrongness of it thats funny.allways best when told by someone you would least expect it of.

I'm not offended, I just find it cringeworthy and embarassing to watch sometimes – which is a shame as I quite like it most of the time.

I find all sorts of incredibly un PC stuff amusing – Frankie Boyle for example, but the difference is that he is funny, and sometimes makes some valid points with his humour.

Not just going 'urghh your a gay get away from me'.

    Another dead hero,

Sorry i dont know any gay people from Sheffield so cant ask them, but i read in the media of gay people being assaulted and even killled for their sexuality, and a programe sposored by us the tax payer and TV licence holder,to propogate such purile comments and images in the minds of people of little understanding of acceptable behaviour is wrong.

It wasn't offensive, just a very lame episode -as was the previous one.

From the Producer's blog on the TG website:[/url]

"I think show one is strong and show two, where the boys build their own electric car is, I would humbly say, a belter – a little bit of magic happens when they’re all together in one car, Renault Espace convertible stuff."

Top Gear was really good in the past, but they've obviously run out of ideas, which is only to be expected.

Resorting to 'nob gags' and using 'rude words' is a sign of desperation by the producers.

It may be clichéd, but they are now flogging a dead horse.

"Show three is, gasp, for people who like cars, because we want to explore this question of which car company made the greatest number of great cars – and we’ll be asking you for your thoughts very soon on that one. So yeah, show three is a bit geeky,

Apologising for featuring cars?? Heaven forbid that there might be something technical…

I thought it was in some way a car show? It's supposed to be "geeky".

"…and to balance that out we’ve got James’s Caravan Airship film, which will take an exalted place in the pantheon of Cutting Edge Cocking About"

To balance out a car show they'll be showing a 'hilarious' Caravan Airship film… I may be being unfair, James might come up with something good, as he does on his solo TV programmes(and the first series with Oz Clarke)

If I watch the next episode it will be on iPlayer, so that I can watch the "geeky" bit and ignore the rest.

if you don't understand how humour works don't attempt it on national tv?

top gear is shit and everyone knows it, yet we (well, you more than me) watch it regardless and then moan about how shit it is. whether this is because we (you) are stupid and will lap up anything offered or that there is a lack of anything decent on tv is another matter for us (you).

Is it supposed to be funny because they're pretending to be 7-year-olds? I was convinced you could get the bad AIDS from being touched by a gay when I was 7. If I pretended to be 7 now, that could be pretty funny. Certainly funny enough for me to get paid a vast amount of money for it anyway. 🙂

It did seem a bit odd to me. I like James but Clarkson is a bit odd really and Richard seems to be a Clarkson wannabe. Kinda reminds me of the old Spitting Image sketches with David Owen and David Steel.

My friend once said to me in a discussion about how much we disliked TG – "Just because it's stupid to do something, it doesn't make it all post-modern and ironic to go ahead and do it anyway" – which describes the stupidity of what they do. It's just not that funny anymore.

And I watch it – Aaaargh, but only because I know it'll be discussed at length here and I need to know what is being debated…and occasionally, just occasionally, they do an article about a car in which I'm interested. I love the Stig taking a mentalist car around the track as much as the next guy. There was an episode last season where they finished with JC driving a new better-than-the-one-before Aston and he didn't even bother reviewing it – just words to the effect of "it's an Aston Martin with a V12…what did you think it would be like" set to a good soundtrack and wonderful footage of it blasting through a quiet road in the middle of nowhere as the credits rolled. This I concede, is what TG can still do very well.

That episode last week where they drove half a million quid's worth of supercar through areas of Romania where people live on the edge of poverty and starvation – calling them gypsies when they obviously weren't – bordered, not on racism, but certainly middle-england style Telegraph/Daily Mail inspired xenophobia. And the whole show was based around this constant sniggering at another country's social problems. Maybe I'm being over-sensitive, but it really just wasn't funny or clever or intelligent or anything else positive.

    YOU CAN CHANGE CHANNEL!

No need to shout – I know I can. I don't complain to the BBC about it. I have a whinge here and to some of my more enlightened friends about it and try to convince some of my less enlightened ones that it's all bollocks and not that funny. So I watch it, just to see how stupid they are this week. Just because I can change channel, it doesn't mean that I can't voice an opinion about it.

the world has gone PC bloody mad!

Sorry, just enlighten me how not finding three prats driving half a million pound's worth of cars through impoverished areas, laughing at the "natives" and the "gypsies", staging a "crash" where it was implied that the "gypsy" had crashed his old banger into the Lambo on purpose funny is "gone PC bloody mad!"?

Oh sorry, I missed the bit where Clarkson suggested you take an iron fence railing to the nearest gay. I'd have got a bit miffed about that, from personal experiance.

OK, so TG is rubbish at post-modern gay bashing. Just turn over, no one is forcing you to watch it and if you really hate it, write to the BBC, don't bitch about it on internerd forums like the nodding daily wail dog.

    homophobic murder last month

pc mad change the channel, etc the point is the failed attempt at wit by the presenters (the minute they leave the script it seems) makes homophobia a little bit more ok among the uneducated masses, quite a few of whom watch top gear i suspect

Personally I thought the lad with a tash was probably a stooge.
The whole thing looked scripted to me. The way he put is arm around/over May's shoulder, just looked fake. All 3 presenters looked like cocks in that section.
You have to accept TG for what it is. Playground humour with a loosely car based theme.
No such thing as bad publicity of course though is there

I don't mind you bitching about it at all, I don't even really like TG much, milding amusing, nothing more, but winding you bunch of morally outraged muppets up is highly entertaining.

A self confessed serial wind up merchant yes, but I stand by my point.

Saying some sh^t jokes on a tired TV programme are tantamount to inciting homophobic GBH is moronic, and undermines the seriouness of such assault. Just becuase you can't deliniate between a stupid rubbish joke and smashing a gays face in becuase he's a nancy boy, dosn't mean you should be allowed to police all slightly off colour jokes from the screen.
