I've set myself the challenge of doing the whole East Devon Gravel route in one go - with a few tweaks to put in a bit more proper offroad.

Pacing myself I'm figuring about 12 hours including a couple of pub/food stops.

Should be fun (maybe type 2 fun!)

It's a good route, I did it a couple of summers' ago. Definitely do-able in a day but some very punchy climbs and is pretty relentless in places, so don't burn all your matches at the start!

Descending off Fire Beacon was a real highlight for me. Enjoy it!

I'm going the opposite way - local knowledge - the East part of the loop is much, much better going clockwise!

I've done both parts multiple times in both directions over the last few years, building up to doing it all in one go.

I did the East Devon Trail in a day on the hottest day of the year last year. Managed it by being sensible and drinking lots of full fat Coke!

@Clink - fair play! I think it's going to be ideal conditions tomorrow...20•c and dry.

How long did it take you to get round?

East Devon Gravel Trail -

https://bikepacking.com/routes/east-devon-trail/

The route I'm doing is tweaked a bit for a one day ride, and to take in some better (imo) off-road bits.

I've cut out the bits down to Lyme and up to Colyton, doing the East half clockwise (it's much better), and take a bridleway up to the top of Stoke Woods, instead of the horrible road section after Broadclyst.

I can send you my gpx file if you like.

Fantastic!

I'll keep an eye on Strava for your upload when it's done?

If you need a brew and cake boost when you're passing by yettington, come down the road for one!

What bike are you using, not the stooge?

Yep, I'll be on the Stooge - it's currently geared, singlespeed would kill me on this ride I think!

That looks superb!  I also have requested a follow on Strava, but I'll be thinking of doing it over 2 days.  Eldest Ready-son went to Uni in Exeter and although the journey from Suffolk was long, that part of the country is beautiful so made it worthwhile!

Lovely stuff. This and my recent Torridon trip have put me in to the mood for more big days out after mostly doing winch-and-plummet stuff in recent years.

Cracking effort @ajantom. I did it over two days from Wellington (skipped Exeter itself mind) last year during that blisteringly hot September week. It's a beautiful route with loads of good riding. If I did it again I'd actually go for two nights and have a slightly shorter final day as the eastern half the "right" way round was particularly brutal.

Tbf it's quite brutal either way 🙂

Doing it clockwise (the wrong way) means you mostly go up on road and down off-road.
