A Jag wheelieing down the runway after a display at Church Fenton.

Point of order Mr Chairman – I don’t think Church Fenton had/has any HAS’s? Still, with all the other errors in this thread I might as well just ignore it ;-p

From any angle, there is just something so appealing about the F4 Phantom.

I see your Phantom and raise you a Tornado.

Hmmm… I took the photo & was ‘sure’ it was Church Fenton. I don’t think it was Leeming which IIR only had one public show. The HAS’s have put doubt in my mind though now you mention it. Mid to late 70’s I’d say.

A bit of good ol’ Canadian SAR:

Although I have just learnt that Canada will be replacing those with these:

Fantastic photos courtesy of klunk, difficult to top those, so here’s some a bit more up close and personal, as it were:

The view most pilots get of an EE Lightning:

    Pointy end:

    Hot end of an F-104:

Don’t know about a cutting-edge fighter, but the leading edge of a 104’s wing really is cutting edge!

Blown up in Helmand 10 years ago, unfortunately. Everyone got away safely though, which is the main thing.

As the A-10 has been done I’ll go with the AC130 Spectre gun ship, a close second to the Warthog!

    [pedant]Bf 109[/pedant]

Both are correct, used interchangeably by Messerschmidt, the Luftwaffe, and just about everyone else.

Only ever seen the Bf109 designation.

No photos but some kind of military helicopter flew past us on the coast path yesterday at a super low level, pretty cool to see especially as foggy.

That Sea Fury looks amazing. It owes an awful lot to the D model FW-190. The tight cowling and large spinner worked very well even when compared to a liquid cooled engine.

I believe that an Australian Sea Fury shot down a Mig-15 during the Korean war.

I believe that an Australian Sea Fury shot down a Mig-15 during the Korean war.

It was a Royal Navy Sea Fury flown by Lt. Peter Carmichael. The Sea Fury was influenced by the FW190 but have a look at some of the other Hawker projects around the same time with the last generation of big piston aero engines. The aerodynamics of the aircraft mean that while the Mustang wing is extensively modified for air racing the Sea Fury is already close to perfect. And finally, one of my favourite Sea Fury videos:
