Wow I’m surpassing myself here but I’ll ask anyway: a little screw keeps coming undone on my specs – am I OK to use superglue to keep in place? As a lapsed modeller I remember (finding out the hard way) superglue would fog the canopies but don’t know if glasses are made from the same stuff or if they’d be immune?

Thing is, I have some superglue. I don’t have any threadlocker 🙂

Nail varnish would also do the job if you can find some nearby. Also good for filling in scratches in fork stanchions (That’s my excuse for having a bottle in the garage)

Definitely threadlock! Glasses won’t like getting superglue on them…

    Threadlock it is, thanks.

Alternatively I do have some Elastoplast for the full 80s look…

If you’ve got a set of screwdrivers small enough to tighten a glasses screw, one of them is tiny enough to drip a small drop of superglue into the bottom of the second part of the thread, where the screw is supposed to finish up. I’ve just done this repair and using threadlock (which I believe is just a softer version of superglue) it became quite hard to turn the screw as it reached the drop of liquid.

Loctite 222, or alternatively linseed oil.

I thought this might be a thread about dogging, alas I was cheated.

what happens if you want to replace the arm and you’ve super-glued the screw in?

In a backstreet somewhere in your town there is a bloke beavering away, performing miracles with glue and tiny screws, repairing frames for people who local opticians have failed to persuade to buy new glasses. Ask the optician nicely and they might just tell you where he is. The same for false teeth, another trade where unsung heroes are performing small miracles every day in dingy workshops.

    Fancy that.
