Just wondering if the rockguardz carbon down tube protectors are worth getting as Ive seen very mixed reviews. Looking for some protection for my orange five since its had a nice new respray and tend to ride very natural rocky places such as the lakes.

Some people have said that they scratch the paintwork and others have said they can cause more damage? Some have also said they are great so just wondering what peoples thoughts are.

Got one on my capra, you do need to make sure the frame area under the guard is taped otherwise the guard will scuff it up pretty badly. But other than that they're pretty good at stopping rocks from denting or cracking your frame.

Brilliant.

Tape below as you go need to take it off to clean behind, but it's so worth it.

I've had one on my yeti, YT and now on the Bronson, and they've all had big hits from jaggy bastard rocks.

Money well spent.

I'm using 3M rubber mastic tape 2228 for the chainstay, downtube and a couple of other spots on my new build.

It's a joy to apply and feels like it'll do at least as good a job as one of those clip on guards.

How does the Bronson one attach? Not sure from the pics whether it actually uses the 2x bolt mounting for the stock frame guard rather than clipping on.

To the OP, I’ve had 2 (one on a 5) which I just used when riding rocky trails as my local trails are more loamy. I concur with the thoughts above and will be buying on for my new carbon frame before it goes to the Alps.

We've used All Mountain Style stickers, they work really well.

My HB.160 is Invisiframed with a Rockguardz over the top. Came in handy at Glentress. Don't know whether the Hope carbon would have been damaged in the same way, but glad I didn't have to find out.

Thanks all, is their any particular tape you use underneath the guard? Or what about foam underneath the guard? I've heard a lot of people say to use foam? Think I'll order one tho.

Cheers! I love it, but hoping Hope will pick me as an Ambassador so I can get a 130 too.

Totally forgot - there's a rubber protector under there, but the rock strike would have missed it!

My rockguardz protector looks like teeth grinders, it has a couple of big chips out of the carbon.

Not sure whether the frame would have suffered the same damage if the protector wasn't there, but I'm happy to have it taking the brunt of any impacts

I ran one on a Nomad v3 for 2yrs+ and it was shagged when I eventually changed frames (for circa £30, I prob should've replaced it)

If the fir is not great, i believe you can manipulate it a little if warmed with hot water. Defo fit invisi frame underneath or a similar product as the grit caught under it will scratch the frame finish a little, best practice would be remove at each wash and rinse frame/guard in the wet months

Had one on my Trek Rumbelfish years ago, fitted kind of all right, but it needed modifying to fit correctly. It was obviously for a previous model year but was sold to me as fitting my bike. Couple of modifications to fit round bolts, but once fitted it was very good.

Id say just make sure it is correct for your bike.

Had them on my Trance, Jeffsy and now my Bird AM9 and they all seem to get a few knocks so seems a very cheap way to add a bit of insurance/protection. Heli taped underneath then soak the guard in hot water to make it a bit more flexi and they slip on.
Howard from Rockguardz very helpful when I first started to use them on fitting etc

Have had one on my bike for about 4 yrs now, has definitely saved a lot more damage than it has done. It is a really good fit mind which i think definitely helps a lot

The ION SAS-Tech kits are great. Cut to size and re-usable.

Thanks all, I've went to buy one but have noticed that on the rockguardz model selector it has orange five (up to 2016) my bike being 2016), however the bike on the picture is the old style five and mine is the newer mk 2 orange five. Presumably that's still correct?

Thought id just mention as the thread is open so

I think you will be OK, having had a look at some of the other pics used on other models they’ve used the same pic for different models.

I had a 2016 five and bought one (I assume the up to 2016 version) and it fitted fine.

I have one of my Bronson after I had to replace it due to a rockstrike. Since then its taken some massive hits... They're essential as a replacement front end was £700 at cost....

How does the Bronson one attach?

It needs to be sat in hot water, then pushed on. It holds on really solidly, hence the helicopter tape required below.

Ok, thanks. Then the integrated guard bolts over the top?
