Those little camping Gaz camp bistro cylinders…

Are those little 220g cartridges for the camping Gaz bistro style stoves all the same? I’ve been using some Aldi butane ones but they seem to lose power quickly as the cylinder gets cold when the gas is being drawn off.

Are the isobutane ones any better, or there’s also some with butane propane mix.

I’m not really using it in cold conditions as such it’s more the cold caused by the cylinder getting chilled in use. I’m currently just swapping cylinders over when one gets cold, then allow it to warm back up. Just wondered if next time I buy some there’s better options than the Aldi ones.

I have the Camping Gaz branded ones as they were on offer in Blacks. They do the same thing, you get a lovely strong flame and it dies off as the can gets cold. I’ve been taking it out and shaking it to get a strong flame again. Hadn’t thought of alternating two canisters, I’ll try that next time.

Yeah what I do is put the new cylinder in, then stand the cold cylinder on the corner of the stove on the flap that lifts up for a little bit to warm it up. Keep turning it and shaking it, but I’m not responsible if you blow yourself up with my dodgy gas cooking advice 😀

Butane is butane but the difference if trying to make breakfast after a cool night in April / late September to mid summer can be night and day with a butane stove. Full canisters are less susceptible than half empty ones but I don’t think brand has much effect (assuming the same weight of gas is in each).
I don’t know whether propane mix is available in those tall thin cylinders as that is less bad with cold, but not immune from it.

Yeah you can get a mix of propane and butane in the small cylinders.

Options are
Butane (like my Aldi ones)
Isobutane mix ( blue camping Gaz ones)
Butane-isobbutane-propane mix (gosystem gas ones)

I’ll try the go gas ones next time see if they are any better.

Tried dunking it in some water (if available) as a heat sink?
