Chuffin’ Nora! I knew samurai bowmen held several arrows in their shooting hand and could fire sitting, standing, on horseback, etc, because their bows are asymmetric, but I had no idea it was that common across the world. Makes a lot of sense for an archer as a warrior rather than a hunter, but to see it in action is astonishing. 😯

I like the DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME notice when he was catching and splitting the incoming arrow.
    No shit sherlock.

Another archer here (recurve, longbow, horsebow).

He’s the Danny Mac of archery (for all the good and bad that implies).

Do wish people wouldn’t use the word ‘fire’ for shooting an arrow – small point but it really irks me.

I wonder if he’d be interested in a little wealth redistribution job 🙂

As amazing as that is, it just makes me think of Napoleon Dynamite.

The question of course is whether it has enough stopping power … 😆

Or which is stronger the Longbow or Mongol heavy bow?

😀 It’s very skilled I’m sure. But as someone who knows nothing about archery, I spent a lot of time wondering if it was supposed to be some kind of spoof.

    The history was interesting though.

I really enjoyed it, though he come across, as a mad as box of frogs. Found it really interesting, but was left wondering by the history.

Ditto, it’s brilliantly ridiculous. The bit on rollerskates finished me off. Fantastic skills, fascinating history though.

As I mentioned elsewhere when I posted it, I was expecting him at any moment to ‘fail’

That Russian video above can’t be real surely?!

In some ways this video is really cool it other ways its a bit ‘odd’.

The thing is I really have no idea how good an archer he is.

When he’s running / jumping he looks quite discordinated. But then I suppose he’s trying to run/jump with a bow + arrows in his hands.

Also is he getting a reasonable amount of power ?

The catching the arrow/speed shooting is quite impressive what ever.

Hmmm… amazing skills from someone who appears so uncoordinated but clearly isn’t.

Questionable historical accuracy though – if he reads his “ancient manuscripts” properly he’ll see that the samurai found rollerblades impractical on the battlefield. They were purely for ceremonial purposes.

Or which is stronger the Longbow or Mongol heavy bow?

It’s possible to make a bow too powerful for a man to draw using either construction technique, so the more powerful bow is the one built for the more powerful archer.

agreed it looks uncoordinated bobbins but I think that may be cause we’re used to carefully shot stylised stuff. The fact of the matter is he’s loosing* 3 arrows a second and hitting his targets whilst running/jumping/rollerblading etc, does it matter if he looks a bit crap?

(admittedly this being the internet, yes it does, but you know what I mean)

    *that ok muddydwarf? 🙂

if he reads his “ancient manuscripts” properly he’ll see

when they were talking about not crossing the arrow over the bow and showed some pics I was wondering if artists of the time just struggled with painting the arrow behind the bow 🙂
