I know nothing about cocktails, or what you need!*

There are plenty on Amazon, but all seem to have mixed reviews. And some come with a glass and some are an all metal shaker.

[baffled]*neither does the wife really, but out of the blue, this is what she wants![/baffled]

Cocktail shaker, glasses, 47 bottles of booze. And some lemonade, we’re not animals.

And ice, lots of it, and some ice balls too.

I got this one – you have to whack the glass hard (which made me nervous at first) to make it seal, but it makes you look/sound more like a real cocktail bartender.

Shaker is the main thing. Get a proper one with a filter which allows the ice to be kept in tye shaker while you pour the liquid out. Next maybe a good recipe book.

AIUI, the ones with the glass are really for making individual long cocktails. I’d rather have a regular lid to make multiple short ones.

    Gin isn’t a drink, it’s mascara thinner.

I wouldn’t agree with Jamb. The shaker is the main thing but those caps get stuck on as the metal gets colder. That’s why we use strainers and the shakers which are a glass and a metal ‘glass’.

Get a couple of pouring spouts.
    Cocktail spoon
    muddler
    double sided jigger
    nice sharp zester / knife

    This one looks good.

Also a nice ice bucket, couple of highballs / collins, couple of martini glasses, tumblers, 35mm shooters and, of course, the ingredients for your favourite drink.

We always had staff perfect a gin martini before moving on.

That’s why you have to add other stuff to it to mask its vileness 🙂

Buy a copy of “how to drink” by Victoria Moore. A good lemon juicer, some good thick tumblers so you can muddle your lime (with a muddler) for caiparinhas. An ice crusher for margaritas. A good shaker with strainer.

I’ve always found that a couple of nights away at a boutique hotel does the world of good.

Ensure that they know how to mix a cocktail.

I’d apply the charm bracelet principle where you buy the Mrs a bracelet one year then never have to think again, just another bauble to go on it twice a year.

Start her off with a bottle of voddy

Pop to Nisbets and get a Boston glass and tin, a Hawthorne strainer, a fine/tea strainer and some decent glasses. A recipe book (there’s some Gifford’s ones in my local tkmax,) and a proper measure to ensure you get the balance right and you’re away.
