    A short story, if I may….

Earlier this year we bought a new(er) car and, wanting best VFM, I tried to sell our old car privately, through all the usual channels, with no success at all. So we resigned ourselves to having to PX it. With one week to go I decided to bang it in the classifides as a last resort. OK, it was a decent, cheap, diesel estate car which is precisely what STWers want, but I had people falling over themselves for it. I could have sold 6 of them. Happy buyer and seller.

A couple of weeks ago we decided to sell or motorbikes. Both Ducati Monsters which are a bit niche really.
Again, I advertised in the proper places, and paid good money for said ads. Nothing. And I advertised on motorbike forums. Nothing.
So, rather embarrased, I stuck them both on the classifides again. MrsPPs sold to a STWer within a couple of days, and mine sold to the mate of a STWer (Who'd seen the advert and knows me through STW, and sent his shock up with the buyer so I could change the bushes for him!!) last night, both for a fair price for both parties.
And all 3 buyers were decent people to know and deal with. It was a pleasure to do business with them, and as such I was 100% honest about the smallest faults every time, which, to be brutally honest, I might not have been otherwise.
I wouldn't rip a mate off, and that's what it felt like: Talking to a mate.

I cannot, for the life of me, think of a more powerful, all round, resource than STW. Nothing comes close.
It's a blimmin' amazing place, really, in case you didn't realise.
Don't abuse it, you'd miss it like hell if it went……

(And before you ask, I did pay a few quid for the car advert, and will also pay for the bike sales)

It is a wonderful resource and despite some individuals who try to take advantage it has remained so over the 5 or so years I've used it.

Its great for buying/selling and for relevant or OT advice

Over the years STW has helped me:

    – plan holidays
    – plan my honeymoon
    – find my current house
    – perform numerous DIY jobs on said house

And tons of more inconsequential minutiae besides.
It keeps me sane and is my go to place for sensible (and not-so-sensible) advice and banter.

Me and Julian have said on many occasions how great this place is. Whether it's advice about bike mods, rehousing single gloves, moral support or generally just pulling together when someone it. Even the grumpy and belligerent posters. 🙂

the wealth of knowledge of portly mid life crisis sufferers with delusions of gradeur, who think that riding around on an expensive push bike somehow makes up for their dull job in engineering or IT, is quite astounding

I had great help and support finding my autistic son a special needs trailer bike, where hours of dredging google failed, STW came out triumphant. Looking forward to our first family cycling holiday, yay!

They've not been used enough and we need the money to be honest. I'm gonna get a scooter for running round on in a few weeks though…..

It never fails to amaze me how someone can ask even the most bizarre of questions on more or less any subject under the sun and within a few hours someone somewhere will have answered it or provided a link to further information.

Many forums struggle to get more than a few dozen posts a day, this one probably clocks thousands of posts a day. And beneath the moaning, the cliques, the tongue-in-cheek and the in-jokes there's a really caring sharing community – long may it continue!

    Ducati to a scooter.
    Things must be awful.

I regret selling my yellow 748 but I was getting a tad too quick and race-orientated and after 4 low-sides on track, I thought a Husaberg FS650 was the way forward instead, so sold her.
    Never gelled with supermoto.
Now it's 29ers all the way!

Got to day, STW is a so much more friendly and pleasant place to be than ever is BM.

When you do, and you're finding the fast group at all the track days a little limiting and same-same (ish), try the California Super Bike School under Andy Ibbotson. Level 2 is THE best.

I've got a bike for sale too…. Hadn't thought about the classifieds on here! Ta PP.

I've been around STW for about 6 years now. I don't post too often, but always have the chat room open in the background.

STW has had me in fits of laughter and floods of tears. It's helped me through depression, calmed my fears over having children, helped me buy shiny things, cars, hifi, and no end of useless gadgets. Introduced me to some great food, drink and music.

It's a bit like a pub really. Mainly populated by thoroughly decent human beings who can restore your faith in humanity at the drop of a hat. And there's the odd knob too.

    It's a great place. 😀

Huge amounts of assistance, advice and sheer entertainment on all sorts, either passively or actively; some great characters (some not so) and a broad cross-section of our society albeit probably a little older (and grumpier!) than the norm.

I too sold my Ducati and bought a Husaberg (FE400 – for enduros) and I have done a CSB course at Rockingham, although on my race CBR600. No m/cs now but 3 bicycles and, like PP, I'll be buying one again eventually – it just gets in your blood!

Always considered the 600cc class at New Era meets at Cadwell to be the most likely to see all the riders sectioned under the Menatl Health Act. 😛
Especially in the wet. In the end I saw a few too many fatalities and witnessed my own limited abilities plateau at a low level early on – so sold up.

Well see the more I see them the more I like them to be honest 😀
So if I dont get a 916 it will be either a moster 696 new (because you did not tell me yours were going fro sale) in lilac, or a multistrada 😀

    PeterPoddy

I test rode an 1100s Multistrada when I bought the Monster. Awesome engine, just incredible mid range, but not what I wnated at the time. I might possible get another 696 though. We'll see. It'll be a year or two I imagine…..

I've put over 11k on that car, driven it all around the French and Italian alps, no issues except discovering the fan thermostat switch failed. Pretty good in my book for the money. Great transaction all around.
