The Boardman/Burrows/Lotus must be up there. I'm struggling to think of any celebrity bike as there are for cars. Maybe Eliot's in ET

One of the Lotus bikes was outside our office door in an old job. Used to just stand and ogle it

Is there a Moulton in the list Ton ?

The Boardman/Burrows/Lotus

^^ A guy used to ride one of those at the Eastway 10TT.
What a noise it made going past.

For sheer numbers of people who could point at it and tell you it's name, I reckon it'd be close between a Penny Farthing and a Raleigh Chopper.

the one the rider mended in a smithy in an early TdF then got DQ'd as someone else had been pumping the bellows and that counted as external help.

I know Dr Hutch (Michael Hutchinson) bought one and TT'd on it. If it was going very fast it may have been him.

The best selling vehicle in the world is a certain bike. And neither is British or American,

Generally? Chopper or Penny Farthing maybe. Interestingly both bikes with mismatched wheel sizes. Moulton has to be in there right?

An Ordinary isn't a bike, it is a style of bike - there are plenty of variants.

The most famous bike must be the Lotus. Instantly recognisable worldwide.

I'd say that the Raleigh Chopper would be second (if UK-centric), but it was derived from the Schwinn.

Don't know if there in yer book but the Raleigh three speeders built after ww2 and up to this day are both significant and a brilliant design.
