Always used rock pegs and an impact gun. Granted its overkill for soft ground, but middle of summer when the ground is rock hard, I’m the smug one sitting with a beer whilst others are cocking about straightening pegs.

Have got some fairly industrial ones for using on gazebos, the size you want to be using a ratchet strap to hold them down.

Nordisk looks ideal. Is it pure cotton or a polycotton? It’ll probably need weathering prior to use. Far more pleasant a place to live than a plastic tent.

RNP – just seen the Finland part. When/where are you going?

Is it the Utgart that you bought?

Don’t forget there arent many tent poles so will go up quick anyway.

This was another one of the reasons I lept on the Wiggle deal – no faffing threading long poles through wet tent material ‘tunnels’

Polycotton. I’m planning to use it over the next few weeks – doggo loves camping and winter weather.

You’ll still need a decent area of flat ground that you can get some type of pegs into, and arrange 14 pegs (maybe 10 min?) and 9 poles.

I spent 2 weeks summer camping in Norway, car camping, pitching up at night and gone in the morning. That was with a 5kg 3 man tent. 3 poles and 4 pegs minimum. It was still sometimes tricky to find the right shaped spot at the right time, out of the way yet next to the road/track for getting the stuff from the car.

I camped a bit in Finland too, but by bike and with a hammock. Lots of bare rock, lots of trees, lots of dead wood and non-flat ground between the trees – hammock or small-footprint, self-supporting tents were ideal. And there’s also plenty of Laavu – open shelters. If you’re doing lots of one-nighters, you might end up spending more time in them, and saving the Utgart for longer, pre-planned stops.

Not meaning to rag on your plans, my experience might be completely irrelevant for the places you have planned. Just chucking in my 2p!

The rough plan is next summer, route was going to be Denmark – ferry to Norway, north Atlantic coast road up to Narvik then down through Finland.
Like all things in life though it is subject to change.

Yep – the Utgart tent, I think it should work well for us.

Edited to add – ah! Just read the above.
