I need to setup the suspension on my bike, Pike Air front and Fox RP23 rear on Orange 5 (yeah I know, another 5) usually I get mates to do it for me as I seem to be really bad at doing it myself and don’t notice any differences unless they are blatantly obvious..
Figure its about time I have another go at getting to know it…
Are there any decent guides to suspension setup out there?

25-30% sag, fast rebound up front, slower on the rear. sorted.

Thanks, How do I know when the rebound is correct though?

Find some wide spaced steps to ride down, if it feels like a hardtail after two steps it’s probably too slow – then fine tune from there.

There is no one right answer for all trails though. For the fast rocky trail centre stuff I have the rebound all the way off (I find the RP23 has enough rebound damping on minimum) but on more smother natural stuff (and when I get tired and lazy and remain seated more) I apply a couple of turns.

The fork is kinda the same really – find a rough section and keep riding at it. Apply more damping if the front is pinging back up violently and less if you’re starting to feel hits 2, 3 and onwards more than you’d like.

Twiddle the rebound knob as you go, see what’s best. I’d say that on a 5, you want it so that when you bounce on the saddle (off the bike) you can just about see it coming back up a bit more slowly than it went down. They work nicely with it a bit faster at the back, unlike some other bikes.
