My rear XT775 wheel is on it’s way out (knacked cup) and I was going to go for a Hope Hoops Flow a replacement. Just as I was about to pull the trigger I saw that CRC have the Black Flag expert on offer at the moment and they sound just the ticket with a 24mm eyeletted Stan’s rim.
Does anyone have any real world experience of them as I’d not heard of them before?

I think that you get rim strips, sealant, QR skewers, 15mm and 20mm spacers and if you are able to get 50% off = go for it, bargain. Just watch those bearings and the alloy freehub thing- may need to use a fairly expensive cassette with an alloy carrier.

I know the deal does sound good. But a rear Hope Hoop won’t cost much more.
But then the front and rear wont match, can I live with that 😕

They use Stans Notubes based rims (I think SunRingle manufacture the rims for Stans) so will be easy to set up tubeless.

I disagree about SunRingle being ‘shite’. My Dirty Flea hubs on a previous wheelset were excellent – light, fast spinning. I only sold them as they wouldn’t convert to 15mm.

They are no different to Hope in needing an XT/PG990 type cassette and my set span with less drag in the hub than my current Hopes.

I’ve just bought a set of Black Flag Pro for less than half price and can’t wait to try them out.

Where did you get the Pros from at less than half price?

not had an issue with sun ringle hubs or rims. in fact all of my SR rims have held up very well.

one singletrack rim is several years old and is not on the front of the GF’s bike, still nice and true. the rear of that set died a death, but that was after two years and one season of solid guiding.

the MTX rims and hubs i have now have been faultless.

i did however encounter a badly laced Black Flag rear wheel on a Cannondale 140 that loosened up so much on the first ride that meant i had to drive up into the mountains with a replacement. factory built wheel, though.
