We all know the format of Art Club 🙂 .

For fun as always. Remember to only use a genuine authenticated photograph of the dragon before attempting the theme 😉

Lydon’s Fire Breath dragon. Not certain if he copied an actual photograph or not.

    Pretty good for 9 y.o.

I’m year of the tiger.. after GEDA’s lecture on the last thread I thought I had better toe the line.. so I’ve copied this from Hokusai.. 😕

I think the old master used watercolour but this is rendered in sharpie on copier paper..

    I like that 🙂

Draw what you like… no rules or line to tow.

    I’m looking forward to GEDA’s dragon 🙂

Yep, GEDA has made me see the error of my ways. I was too busy enjoying myself drawing things I wanted to rather than paying strict attention to the masters.

With that in mind I’ve chosen one of my favourite pictures by someone who knows how to paint and that. William Blake’s red Dragon. Obviously I used a photograph for reference. Flail me now.

By the way, one of the reasons (other than the obvious) it’s a bit crap is that I drew it in pencil first and then had a bright idea of colouring it in with an airbrush in GIMP. What I failed to appreciate is how dull it would make the picture look. The pure pencil version provided a lot more impact.

I’ve not drawn since I was at school nearly 20 years ago, I loathed art then because I wasn’t very good at it. But reading one of the last artclub threads with someone claiming “anyone can draw” I decided to give it another go.

Copied from a ‘How to draw a dragon’ website. Using a piece of acrylic art paper from the SO’s best art pad () Outlined with an Ikea pencil (because the SO’s are locked away) Then shaded with a 3B pencil stub I nicked out of my stepdaughters bedroom.

I’m out this week I’m afraid, a weekend of moving has resulted in a) no free time and b) a sprained drawing wrist.

Boo. Also means no riding and no climbing… Not the best week ever!
