I’m putting together an end of year quiz and I have a “recognize the sound” round. I tried it out with some younger students and they managed 8/10 so any ideas for more difficult sounds (but not impossible ones).

The sounds at the moment are…

    1. a dialup modem
    2. helicopter
    3. dot matrix printer
    4. the sound of a railway station
    5. walking in snow
    6. tap dancing
    7. a washing machine
    8. a zip being done up
    9. a fire
    10. a galloping horse

    Cheers..

A ZX Spectrum loading a game. That’ll sort the youngs from the olds.

The hiss bump hiss bump of the inner groove on an LP. For the proper oldies.

A fax at the other end of a line although the modem sound probably covers it

..not a fart in a lift, but the sound of lift doors opening and closing is a good one.

I’ve done typewriters and ye olde worlde telephones before. Think i’ve got enough now, cheers.

    On old fashioned till

maybe not as old as this

but the ones that predate our current ones that kind of churned more

maybe as a bit of a red herring – a one armed bandit too
