Steerer question

Has anyone ever replaced the steerer in their forks?

If so what is it bonded with and where did you get the steerer and how??

I think Rock Shox heat the crown & chill the steerer before fitting them together & then let them return to normal temperature together, you’d probably be able to get the old steerer out but struggle to get the new one in (if you could buy one)

windwave can do it on marzocchi forks and IIRC epicyclo ( or one bod off here) has done so on other forks

As above, & Fox one’s cannot be replaced seperately to the stantions.

Heat is the answer for steel steerers.

You need to have a setup to support the crown when you drive out the old steerer. This should be as close to the heat source as possible. Use a heavy hammer* and hit it square and with intent. You only have a few seconds before it cools too much. Reheat it if it doesn’t drive out freely.

All this at your own risk of course. Too much heat and you compromise the crown.

*something you’d use for smashing rocks rather than daintily tapping in nails 🙂

just use a 10 ton press,no heat needed have done a few times
