I tried SS for a month once. It made me angry. Too hard a gear to climb and too easy a gear to have fun DH, load of crap. Only any good for BMXs and jump bikes.

you have no power for the ups and can’t find flow on the downs…you sir ride like this:

blaming one gear will not help your little trolly ways 😀

How do you know when someone is a singlespeeder?

when they smash past you on a climb with a waft of stale beer and flap of beard in the wind and you spin your little mincey powerless legs like an ineffectual crippled hamster in a wheel?

Where did you get that picture of me?

I admit I probably don’t have the power for climbing but I was spinning out on every DH section I tried. It seems to me that one gear is a very bad compromise.

fair point, so the orang is in fact already a gazillion times for skilled and gnarcore radsik than all the gearie riders on silly track. See even SS riding great apes, are just cool and froody dudes 😀

face it dangler boys, you’ll always be nerdy ones with the clarkes anti scuff shoes and a jumper that smells of dog poo

They just spent 15 minutes telling you about it.That’s pretty good )

sure enough, at some point, they drop another gear, and you spin past ’em.

I never realised how much shifting makes a gearie stall until I tried to follow one. (I gave up and pushed past).

How do you know when someone has gears? They spend 15 mins telling you what they’ve had to replace or why their gears are skipping.

I ride singlespeed most of the time but I also have bikes with gears. You should hear the arguments I have with myself

I’d rather have my gears replaced than my knees.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a true single speeder. The one gear bike riders ive met seem to spend a lot of time changing gears between rides rather than during them. What a waste of time!

Know many ss riders hugor? I know hundreds and we all stay with one ratio and just get on with it. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever met a true mountain biker single speeder. The one gear bike riders ive met seem to spend a lot of time changing gears and complaining about the world between rides rather than during them enjoying themselves. What a waste of time!

I always feel like the gears are partly terrain and partly legs, different hills and even hoofed-up bridleway demand physical responses from my legs. Makes me feel very connected and yes quite zen.

Went out with gears the other night and kept on fixating on the trivial things, noises, wrong gear selection etc. Zen was the last thing on my mind.

All I know is the first bikes to the pub at the end of our night rides are usually the Singlespeeders oh and to the top of most of the climbs.. come to think of it we spank the geared bikes on most of the routes we do… It makes me soooo cross!!!

click, pop, ouch, click pop, crackle….

The sound of a multi-geared bike, or the sound of a single-speeder’s knees?

Single speed is just a choice I make on the day. Riding with the sprogs, wet muddy ride, nipping out with someone less fit, towpath ride etc… pull the rigid single speed out and enjoy it. Tough, longer steeper rides get a geared bike out.
