    Morning all

Can anyone tell me if its possible to use a 12 speed chain which is not SRAM Eagle on an Eagle groupset?

Given the challenge of getting hold of 12 speed Eagle chains before the end of this year I thought I’d try one of these:

Works fine on the smaller sprockets but as the chain moves up the block onto the larger sprockets, and the chain angle at the chainring starts to increase, the chain makes more and more noise.

The cassette has about 2000 miles on it however I’ve changed the chain every 400 – 500 miles and each one has worked fine. They have all been SRAM Eagle chains up to this point.

    Ta in advance.

I’m running a gold Ti-N X12 KMC chain on Sram GX Eagle with no problems. I think it might be a little bit noisier than the XX1 chain on Shimano XT on my other bike – but not massively so.

That is quite a lot of mileage on your cassette – so maybe it’s reaching the end of its life?

    That’s what I’m thinking.

My GX started skipping not long after 1000 miles so you’re doing well.

With the mileage on that cassette if the KMC is still shifting I’d probably just ride it all until it dies and replace the lot in one go I’d think.

I tend to run my drivetrain into the ground as the cost of the parts means I only complain about it every 2.5 years. I think I’m just over 2.5k miles on it all.
My Eagle drivetrain is well and truly done and ready to be replaced (can see through the chain and cassette cog the chain is on now).
Can’t get the required eagle stuff so have gone with Garbaruk cassette and chainring and a kmc chain. Assumption being as the cassette isn’t SRAM, the shift isn’t going to be as quiet and that being the case, not using a SRAM chain will be fine as well. Hoping to find out this weekend assuming the bits arrive before then.

The KMC is a new chain on the worn cassette, the worn SRAM chain was working fine and has 500 miles on it.

    Mantel have GX in stock

What’s the sketch post brexit? Import tax?

From Mantel sub £135 spend I think the price quoted is what you pay delivered. I squeaked through my 10-50 gx cassette just under that limit from them earlier in the year. Postage is expensive mind.

So, an update on this one.

Managed to get hold of an NX Eagle Chain from Deporvillage (around the same price delivered as Mantel.)

It works absolutely fine on my 2000 mile cassette.

Looks like the KMC 12 speed chain is slightly less tolerant of the cassette with that mileage.

Eagle just means 12 speed. Any 12 speed chain will work though some might be better than others.
