    Random request but managed to lose my sram DUB crank bolt cap on Garburn Pass today, this thiny the black portion and therefore the washer. Just wondering if anyone randomly has them lying around before I have to cough up the £20 for a replacement.

    Many on here struggle to remove it, yet yours fell off? 🤷‍♂️

    Not really sure why anyone would need to remove the black cap that allows the bolt behind it to self extract? I’m guessing it wasn’t tight in the slightest and lets face it Garburn Pass isn’t exactly pavement smooth… that or someone saw an opportunity to just piss me off! At least the one you’ve linked to you can use a bigger hex to remove and therefore tighten the black cap rather than the one I’ve lost which has the four small holes.

    I think I have one, it was a little marked if I remember correctly. If interested I can post it once I get home next Friday.
    Edit, not sure i have the washer but can let you know.

    Mine randomly fell off as well. SRAM has multiple ways to punish you for buying their gear.

    Just thought I would service my BB for the first time on this bike. SRAM/Truvativ DUB Eagle Carbon Cranks. Took a hell of force to loosen the crank bolt by standing on a long allen key and pedal in situ. Was beating the cranks to separate them which were not for budging and started to look online for tips which I then realised the top self-extracting cap had dropped out but not being familiar with the cranks I have only just realised after spending all afternoon trying to loosen the bolt and remove the cranks so need to try to get hold of one. Had some eagle cranks on another bike so thought I would borrow the cap and as you may have guessed the spec has changed so it is a different size.

    I vaguely remember you can still get the bolt to move without the self-extracting cap, it just won’t extract itself.

    So you have a seized bolt and a missing cap. Longer bar over your allen key time….

    Can you use an old fashioned crank puller once you have removed the bolt ?

    So the cap comes off too easily, but the actual bolt takes a long pry bar with 9 fully grown adults jumping on it to get it loose? Worth knowing, I better check the wife’s cap now.

    I may have one (which I bought in error) when I wanted the Steel replacement.

    I do have it, all the kit. Bolt, washer and cap.
    If I were you though, I’d swap for the steel bolt kit mentioned above.
    let me know if you want this one though.

    I’ve swapped to the steel one – worth it for the hex cap rather than pin spanner (4 holes) top cap. I have a breaker bar to remove the bolt now. My bike mechanic friend was pretty unhappy with me when i took it in for a new BB a while back. She’s really not a fan of the DUB standard

    OP – If I could get mine out (so that I could replace it with the steel version linked to above) you could have mine.

    However, it appears to be welded in placed so unfortunately you can’t.

    If I were you I’d buy the steel one, use the cap from that to remove the cranks (best of luck).

    Once you’ve got the cranks off (by brute force or via behind the scenes bike shop witchcraft) replace the hateful alloy bolt with the steel one. Jobs a good-un.

    If you get the steel bolt/cap kit, DON’T use the cap (with the hex) to extract the original bolt. Ask me how I know this!!!
    The steel bolt has a flat head and is matched to the cap. The original bolt will not have a flat head. This will bind to the ‘new’ cap and get lodged fast requiring you to drill out your ‘new’ cap!
    I need a ‘new’ new cap for the steel bolt, so would need to buy the new kit again. I suppose it would give me a spare bolt and washer though.
    I replaced the original cap, but will need to get a new one when I come to remove the cranks again!

    How easier to remove is the steel bolt?

    I’ve allways got the alloy one off eventually and it’s never been completely stuck but it’s still an absolute pain. I like to regrrase my bottom bracket fairly regularly and it turns it into a big job!
