New bike/chain in August of last year.
Suffered 2nd snapped chain this week at different links
Anyone got a chain replaced under warranty?
First time I’ve snapped a chain in years and it happens twice in the space of a couple of months

IME a chain snapping is it tell you it either needs replacing or you’re crap at changing gears.

    7 month old chain?

Unless you can prove manufacturing defect I’d put it down to wear, bent teeth on a sprocket/chainring, wrong length chain, poor maintenance, damage from hitting the front chainring on stuff or just bad luck.

I’ve worn chains to past their ‘replace’ stretch in less time than that over winter.

    Good luck with that.

It isn’t that short a time to have a chain on, but I’ve not found chain snapping is often related to wear.

Unless you’ve recently decided to start crunching gears, I’d give taking it back a shot, but bear in mind you’ll possibly need new sprockets etc. to go with it.

if the sideplates are breaking then you have a case, if the pins are popping out of the sideplates then wear / poor shifting etc are the likely cause.

Very hard to get a warranty claim on a part that wears like a chain and after 6 months its up to you to prove its a manufacturing fault

You can buy 11 speed chains for £12, just buy one and get back riding.

Although if it’s stretched past .5-.75 you might need to change rings and cassette too.

Thats a broken sideplate so yes you have a case worth taking up. However remember your claim is against the shop and you will only be entitled to a partial refund as you have had a portion of the chains life so is it worth it?

FWIW and I know everyone will have different tales to tell but the only time I have had problems with chains it has been with SRAM chains.

I use KMC chains now & have never had an issue with them….never had a problem with Shimano either, but prefer a chain with a quicklink…

Doesn’t take that long for manufacturing defects to show up.

Be surprised if it hasn’t already reached its wear limit, have you measured it?

I had a SRAM chain go, too, after a similar period (light use only during that time).

I felt certain it was a fault with the chain in some way, or an inherent risk with 1×11.
I felt even more certain it was pointless contacting either the shop or SRAM about it.
I binned the chain, and bought a KMC instead.

    I still mistrust 1×11.

Cracked link looks like a defect to me. I’d try to warranty it.

It was KMC that broke on mine, so I binned them and defected to SRAM, where I’ve had no issues for years.
Properly mangled chain links when it let go, on a totally new drivetrain, with sub 100 miles on the equivalent of towpath riding. Broke the chaintool part of my Spesh multitool too just to rub it in a bit more.

I snapped a KMC chain, it’s because I let it go rusty once after not lubing it up when I’d cleaned it. Or maybe twice.
