SRAM cassette compatibility

Hi

Is it possible to change out a heavy SRAM NX cassette for a lighter Shimano cassette based on a like for like 11/50?

The SRAM groupset includes a standard Shimano spline freehub and I don’t want to change the freehub yet as it’s all brand new.

Just wondered if running a shimano cassette will affect the shifting etc?

You can’t get shimano 12 speed without microspline. You can probably get a sunrace cassette but not sure what they weigh.
Apparently garbaruk make 12 speed cassettes for standard shimano hg freehubs that are a lot lighter but they are nearly £200.
Shifting will probably be fine on any of them.

As Docrobster says you wouldnt be able to go to the Shimano 12 speed range as they need the microspline driver which your hub doesnt have, you can look at the sunrace cassette range, I think they are lighter then the NX and will work fine I believe.

There is a fractional difference in sprocket spacing from SRAM/shim 12.

For alternative to NX, SunRace do a 12speed SRAM spaced 12sp for std HG freehub

I was looking to replace my NX due to a few glitches I’ve had with it, so I also eyed up the sunrace as a reasonable and fairly priced replacement.
