I can fully believe it was just crap customer service from an individual, its a shop, it happens, and bike shops are not known for checking the customer service capabilities of shop floor staff in a rigorous interview process*, but it is just an individual. Ask to speak to someone else, or ask questions. Throwing a huff or moaning achieves nothing.

*do you like bikes? Yes? congrats, you start Monday.

I was once in Currys and the assistant just walked off mid-conversation for a fag break, we were looking at a Samsung TV at the time. Bloody Samsung, they should be ashamed.

To STW members? Most are so tight they squeak when they walk.

    😀

Sounds to me as if it’s a communication thing.

But £200 for new wheels compared to a £23 fix screams rip off shop. So in that respect, Specialized Concept Store Birmingham you are a disgrace.

Until we have the real actual true realife honest proper reason that they offered a replacement wheelset to repair a potentailly slightly wobbly (potentially cracked/bent/flattened/fubar’d) rim, then your rant will receive little support.
    Too many variables.

On the other hand – the fact Spesh can openly offer push bikes at higher prices than some new cars, now that you can rant about.

So are we saying the OPs friend paid 23 quid for a rim job?

Global company in its entirety gets labelled a disgrace in an online rant that will never be deleted all because one or two members of one shop, in one country which may or may not be owned by the company being slandered give crap advice (who may or may not have said what is being quoted). Apparently.

Before you posted this, what did the manager of the shop say about the staff’s handling of the matter? If that wasn’t what you wanted to hear, what did Specialized customer services say when you spoke to them?

You did give them a chance to resolve it before labelling an entire company a disgrace first, didn’t you?

The man above sums it up.

I believe they (concept stores) are franchises. Might explain the varying customer service.

The man above doesn’t sum it up , there is no may or may not be owned by the company being slated . Specialized do not own any shops in England and why do people keep assuming that it’s a concept store , that has never been stated and the balance of probability would suggest that it was an independant LBS .

    Maybe because the OP said.

She went with her son to Spesh at Fort Dunlop

Which is a Spech concept store. 🙂
I’ve also had a not very good experience with this store too.
However the Spech concept store in Stafford were great.

It was bought from the Specialised concept store in Fort Dunlop. 🙄

oh my where to start. Think I shall add my thoughts
If the tyre runbs the stay then it’s a petty serious bend.

I think we should blame the BBC and watchdog for not warning us that about these things before

The estimate of an inch is a bit generous if it still rotates within the frame! It must have some massive mud clearance!

Trying to sting someone for £200 for a pair of wheels on a basic bike is a bit tight.

Slagging a brand off with no just cause sucks too.

    Its wiggles fault.

Just for balance, Wiggle have paid for and sent me a empty box big enough for my whole bike to go inside, including frame protection, packaging and cable types by return yodel collection, so they can perform a warrantly inspection on a broken Bianchi chainstay.

On the other, my Cat sleeps all **** day, bloody Whiskers…

Years ago when I enquired about the bearings needed for the E150 hub the Spesh customer services guy asked for my address. I was expecting some bearings but you won’t believe what happened next…

    …a brand new hub!

But that was a couple of years ago and I didn’t own a toaster back then.

The Birmingham one has always been pretty good, yes they charge a fixed price for some mudguards I wanted on the work bike and couldn’t be bothered tinkering with, but while it was there they fixed what I thought was a slow puncture but turned out to be full puncture, and they indexed my rear gears no additional charges. Before anyone says nope I got the crosstrail from somewhere else.

The best service I’ve ever had from a bike shop is the one at glentress, I’ve said before they sorted my avid out on my camber which decided to lock all for £10, and this summer they replaced all the bearing in my headset and didn’t charge a penny. I went to the café and got them the whole choc cake and put some pennies in the air ambulance can. Seems I can’t go to glentress without getting a mechanical!

Is there a different process for mending a slow puncture to mending a full puncture? These bikes are confusing.

Lol no, they swapped the tube, I thought it was slow as it let it self down once a week so kept pumping it up until I had time to fix it. While it was on the stand at the concept store it decided to let its air out. Turns out I had a massive metal pin stuck in it.

Incompetent mechanics turning a slow puncture into a full one by taking out the object sealing the hole.

Did the coat get caught in the wheel? Maybe that’s why the coat got ripped AND the wheel was broken beyond repair. I still don’t understand why the OP thinks Specialized should repair or replace the coat though.

Bike bought at Christmas and gears already need indexed? How likely is that?

I’d contend that the wheel damage was more than just a buckle, possibly rear mech or hanger damage too?

Pretty likely, that’s why shops do free first services after things bed in.

I once bought a toaster, it kept burning my toast..
Took it back to the supermarket and they laughed at me and gave me a pack of crumpets.
    Terrible customer service.

I’ve used that store quite a few times – service has generally been pretty good in my experience. Even when they have made a couple of mistakes – they have been quick to rectify and have even compensated me with additional products for my inconvenience – I didn’t ask for it and didn’t expect it so it was a great thing to do.

The former Giant centre that they are attached too on the same site has been less good. On one occasion they damaged a grommet on the internal routing on my brothers bike and didn’t admit it. That was annoying.

It’s unlikely a kid did enough mileage in the first couple of days to stretch the cables. Then again, he taco’d the wheel JRA so perhaps the bike is defective 😛
