My mate just got his new Pitch delivered today and I have promised that I will help set it up for him.

I have read that the Pikes that are supplied on the bike are not the full spec and that there are some functions missing. Can anyone tell me what is different on the OEM spec to the factory spec, and how I go about setting these up to get the best performance.

Checked spring types against his weight (he is 70kg and red spriing is for between 60 & 72kg) and he is at the top end of the Red (standard spring) so if he eats any more pies he might need to change this but soes anyone else have any advice I can pass on to him.

I am fine with the rest of the bike set up just wanted to check the best way to do the forks.

usual way, set sag, rebound and compression (if the fork has it) to the desired amounts

The fork will take a little time to bed in so until it does wait to decide if as new spring is needed

He’ll be fine with that spring imo – the weight recommendations are way over the top.

Not sure about the differences from non OEM versions.

According to another forum the difference is

    351
    Rockshox Pike 351 for Specialized,
    95-140mm travel
    coil U-Turn
    Motion Control damper
    disc only
    alloy steerer
    rebound adj
    Maxle 360 included

    426
    Travel 95-140mm
    Travel Adjust U-Turn
    Weight* 2435g (5.4 lbs)
    Available Spring Tech. Coil U-Turn
    Spring Adjust Change Spring
    Damping Motion Control
    Damping Adjust External rebound,
Lowers Magnesium, Maxle 360 20mm, IS disc mount
    Steerer Tube 4130 steel 1 1/8

I have only really ever set up Air Forks so what is the best way to set up the Sag on a coil that from the above spec does not seem to have much adjustment.

If there is too much sag you can try putting on a little bit of compression I suppose. The manual recommends between 15-25% sag sitting on the bike with full riding gear on. In my experience you want towards the top end of that otherwise you won’t be using anywhere near all of the travel once you are riding.

The main way to change sag is just to change springs – I sincerely doubt he will need it though.

I’ve got coil 409 Pikes on my Prophet and the standard spring is fine for my weight, about 13 stone fully dressed and with Camelbak.
If the sag is way out then you’ll have to swap the spring.

Just set the rebound and away you go.

    Thanks for the advice.

I am glad I have Air, so much easier to set up lol.

Mind you I realise both have their pros/cons!!!

I’d just set the sag as above & the rebound to as fast as you can get away with

Thanks uplift. I’ll go out with him tonight and see if I can get it set up for the type of riding he does. Only problem is he is nver happy. 3rd bike in a year and hoping this one suits him lol. He is like a woman with a pair of shoes haha
