What are tubs ? can someone enlighten me ?
Is that what Boardman was on about in the commentary, i.e. tublar tyres, glued on to the rim ?
Never come across those on a mountain bike before (where have I been hiding ?)

tubs are essentially a tyre and tube stitched together to make an air tight tube, its then glued to the rim.

Advantages are less chance of pinch flats as the rim profile is different, ability to run way lower pressures, ability to still ride on a flat tyre.

Dugast produce the Rhino, but they’ll also sew a riders own choice or sponsors tread onto their own casings.

Most common in cyclocross where amateurs like me use them, quite common in elite XC riders.

So only advantage over tubeless, like what us normal
    riders use,is weight?

Men’s race should be great later, although maybe not as er, photogenic:-)

Great pics, really shows the main race which the TV coverage missed due to following the leaders. Shows a lot more of the terrain and technical bits as well. Looks like it was a stunning day out! 🙂

Great pics of what was a great day out. Just wondered if anyone resolved the issue of why some tickets were a higher price. Having spent £45 on a ticket I’m a bit miffed to think I could have gone for the £20 tickets and had the same access. With 20,000 people there I wonder how many spent the extra £25 on the higher price ones…

Bit like budget air ticket prices, everyone gets the same seat, some pay £30, some pay £300 – just depends when you booked it.

That would make sense except I seem to remember that when I booked there was the option at that stage of either going for the £45 or the £20 option…

I see the price as, we discounted some tickets to £20 but most are more. I paid £45 had I bid less I might not have gone

I was planning to make a fuss about the price but as a family of 4 we paid

    £117 for tickets
    £12 for park and ride
£9.60 for water t reduce queing
£8 for 2 bacon rolls to top up hungry kids above picnic

I can’t be bothered to add that up but a once in a life time day out for under £150. Just glad i got the chance so no complaint from me

My thoughts were, if you were willing to pay £45, there was a higher chance of getting tickets…. That’s what the premium afforded…

Still great value for money at £45 and a lot cheaper than decent Stadium tickets!

    Great photos. Thanks.

A few questions on technique. Quite a few girls braking with their “second” finger with their index finger jammed under the brake and thus brake levers set quite far out as a result. Alex seems to be cornering with equal weight on both feet.
