The screen on my 2017 Ipad Pro had been well and truly smashed and I’m not sure which way to go for a repair/replacement. Apple out of warranty repair will be around £400 or I can use my home insurance, with the excess being £350 but then I’d be losing my no claims discount. Would the home insurers even try to repair it or would they replace it? We do have “new for old” on the policy.
    Any Singletrackers had similar issues?

It was just a guess. Isn’t that what happens following a claim, honestly don’t have a clue.

I’d just buy a 2nd hand one off ebay – they start at £350 from reliable vendors.

Do you have Sky telly? If so, take out their Sky Protect insurance for £10pm as it covers all your Sky kit and two other items and there’s no excess. Cancel any time too.

We claimed for out Ipad Air and we got a brand new replacement. Probably had the cover for a couple of years and still won’t have paid out the cost of replacement Ipad.

My only advice, having seen some real horrors, is not to be tempted to save money by fitting a non Apple part.

Don’t have sky unfortunately and definitely not getting a cheapo repair. It is/was a very good iPad. Would prefer a new one on the house insurance but I’m worried about an increase in my premium when it comes up for renewal.

How much for a local screen replacement? £75 for a normal ipad, no idea about the pro though.

I think it will depend on the insurer. Having seen what some do for carpet damage, I suspect for something like an iPad many will have an arrangement with a repairer.

From other repairs I’ve had, usually about 1/2 the apple cost.

I’m sure you are not encouraging someone to commit insurance fraud by taking out a policy after the damage.

Speaking from experience with an Apple laptop screen that cost a similar amount to repair… the excess plus the increase in premiums over the next few years cost more than just paying for the repair myself.

Contents insurance claims for me are now very firmly in the category of “it’s only there for if the house burns down”.

I just bought a new ipad, didn’t go for the pro version…

Had a similar situation but more annoyingly was a few weeks from brand new. From memory the screen is not repairable so the repair price gets you a new IPad. Ended up going via the insurance which was also a new replacement.
