The main issue though is that, once they’ve heated up, sintered pads howl unbearably.
That’s EXACTLY my experience of Alps riding – the howling was unbearable when I tried sintered.
First Alps trip I went through multiple sets of organic pads. Next time I thought I’d use sintered for some longevity but couldn’t tolerate the noise so swapped them out after the first day – back to organic. From then on (about 2015) I’ve been using UberBike ‘Race Matrix’ pads which I find a good compromise – still get some howling after a lot of abuse, but generally silent up to that point.
Now using 4-pot Zees with thicker Magura Storm HC rotors 203/180 and Race Matrix pads. Work well for me although probably swap to 223/203 before my next Alps trip.
