hmmm stu you’ve thought about that a bit too much. you squire are a sick and twisted individual. 😆

going to shave for SSUK, don’t want to be a stereotypical SS rider. i may also cunningly disguise myself by putting on about 5 stone and riding an orange 5

Excuse the poor phone pic, only a few rides so far but I really like it.

Edit- and the front One needs bleeding hence the mismatched brakes.

A proper (XL) man size 29er unlike all these tiny frames where the bars are higher than the saddle:

I’ve had it for a week now and I’m loving it – much faster in the singletrack and uphill than my Zesty or old Gary Fisher rigid SS 29er. Needs a bit of tweaking on the stem length and suspension to dial it in for the rougher steeper though.

Not a great photo showing the bike but its one of the few I have…

    Just after I got it…

Its a 2011 Giant XTC 29er in the Large size (bigest they did in 2011) as its looks small but fits me good at 6’2.

Changed the wheels to Hope pro 2 Evos and Arch EX rims and have recently added a XT shifter (from SLX) and a Thomsom Elite seat post and saddle. Also changed the brakes to Formual RX, and am running a Conti Mountain King 2.4 up front and a 2.2 at the rear.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, (each to their own e.c.t) but you say it looks small but from the saddle position, it looks like a pretty good fit, if anything a bordering on the large side. Just wondering why you think it looks small?

Didnt relise those Canyon 29ers are even out yet,

How does it compare to a FS bike out of interest? was looking into the 9.9 with the fox teralogic but not sure if a FS be better ie nerve XC

clink, much better now it’s under 27lb with a fat front It has some new funkier and massively lighter rims. I reckon I can get another lb of it in half fat guise which will do for me as bimble bike

Rocketdog – it’s a sweet bi of kit. 21pounds in pic above with heavy training rubber.

Should drop sub 20 with race wheels and rubber and a few mods.

Nice Yelli Gotama. Did the demo day make your mind up or did you just go for it? Must try to make it over to Peaslake again soon

    Still an ongoing project.

I’ve shortened the brake hoses and fitted some bar end plugs. It’s chain drive for now while I’m waiting for the belt and pulleys to arrive.

It’s a very different type of bike to my Zesty which over time has become a pretty tough 30lbs build, it’s great on the rough stuff when the trail points down or or technical climbs. It is however stodgy and boring on flatter more twisty XC trails.
The Canyon is way better at climbing and is faster on all my local trails in Bristol (Strava PRs after every local segments after 2 rides). It handles the steep, slow and tight stuff on the side of the gorge well too. It is bolt through at both ends and is very stiff but not uncomfortable, 25lbs (ex pedals) is not bad for at £1250 XL 29er either. The only place I’ve used it so far where the Zesty would have been better is the Cheddar rock garden but that’s a few seconds in a 2 hr ride.
The Nerve XC and the Canyon 29er may be a little closer in personality, it really depends on where you will be riding at=nd what you want from a bike.
