I can't imagine that there is anyone else who has had more that that outside of bike shop employees and sponspred riders…

Brilliant – loving this thread. Some great bikes to inspire my next purchase.

I currently have an S-Works hardtail and like the way it rides. I am thinking that my next bike should be a 29er – so in your collective opinion, which of the bikes posted so far would be the most similar i.e. light and fast, XC orientated?

    light and fast, XC orientated

On-one Scandal (selling one on classifieds!)
Ragley TD-1 (if you like rigid)
Singular Swift ti frame (sorry can't remember the name! 😳 )
    On-one carbon (when it emerges)
Niner scandium frame or their carbon frame

    etc etc

Thanks Clink – that opinion is very useful. (Your Scandal is too small for me – good luck with selling it)

I was under the impression that they are not being imported into the UK – I would love to hear that I am wrong about that 🙂

I was commenting rather on your choice of words. In any case, I've used 26" tubes in a 29er a number of times and not had any great issue with it. These days I try to avoid using tubes altogether.

I must say that the finish on my also unbuilt Swift is really nice – certainly one of the nicest finished frames I've had.

It kind of reminds me of a Spesh Rockhopper if I'm honest – think it's the silver finish…

The Niner carbon frame – now that's a thing of beauty.

Hey Ade – lovely bike. I take it the discussions on here (many months ago) didn't tempt you enough to make your own short chainstay 29er?….

I'm now slightly nearer to making my e-stay behemoth – got a final design and garage now contains a bundle of steel tubing, tube notcher, tube bender and some cnc plasma cut dropouts (that cost a whole £4 each!). I never realised how complicated chainstay bending can be and how much influence a degree / few mm here or there can have on the clearances tyre / crank / heel etc. Mucho practice with copper tube first.

Just making a makeshift jig and then the steelwork begins. So hopefully I might be able to add a photo to this thread sometime before Christmas 🙂

    HI mick_r

i have done a few drawings,, but it seems the world is not ready for an e stay revival yet,, despite the advantages it offers in a 29er,,
i havnt the time to build my own as i currently have three non functioning vintage cars,,

i have to admire you starting on this project,, might be worth practicing in mild steel tube rather than copper as the properties are very different,, before you get to the real thing,,

looking forward to seeing the pics,,

Thats because its tapered on the carbon bike so has a beefy crown. The aftermarket ones seem to all be 1 1/8.
