My Kinesis maxlight XC II Pro

I won the STW XT groupset competition in 2008 so I had brakes, wheels and drivetrain and it seemed criminal to Ebay it all. So a set of REBA Teams, Easton Monkey Lite bars, Fizik Gobi saddle and some Ti bottle cage bolts later I was broke but had built it up from scratch myself.

hmmm, supprised to see so many claims of 20-22lbs ish!

mines a little over 27lbs (without crud)… cant see how I could knock 7 lbs out of it and it not fall apart. I had light wheels and cabon bars/ibeam post/ligter forks on in the past and it still only got to 24.5

I admit to using a crude way of weighing – took the original weight then knocked off bits for all the upgrades. Plus my bike mechanic was pretty certain is was under 23lbs. Light enough anyway.

What was the spec? I'll show you where mine was 4.5lbs lighter 🙂

Picture of it just after buliding it 2 years ago, it remains pretty much the same but now has sid forks. I would guess it's now around 23lb as it was 24 with the old forks on it.

That's why your bike's not light!

Pedal Force frame was 1240g actual, saving 205g over the claimed weight of a medium Obed
SID team without Poploc saves another 150g
Roval Controle SLs save 215g, plus ti skewers saving another 50g
Rocket Rons save 350g, running tubeless drops another 150g odd.
New Ultimate stem is c50g lighter
XTR 2×9 chainset, X.0 Grip Shift, med cage rear mech, XTR front mech, another 200g or so
130g New Ultimate seatpost with Phenom SL saddle
Juicy Ultimate brakes with Hope Pro floating rotors
    Egg Beaters with ti axles
    Foam grips, some alu bolts

etc etc, there's well over 2k there!

Currently with Magura Menja MM130 forks, but possibly going to swap them for a set of Reba's in the next week or so. Also now got a new DT Swiss front rim 😀

Don't know the weight, but it's really rather fun 😛

Ah… I would break most of that stuff pretty quickly I reckon.
Mine had to be beefed up a bit for longevity anyway making it over 27lbs
Guess it depends on the abouse you dish out to it.

Looks pretty similar to a Scandal on the previous page. Still a bit of a work in progress. Now got flat bars and will get a white seat clamp and a new lower stem soon. Not sure of the weight but it feels reasonably light. Ridiculous brake hoses now shortened too.

Ah… I would break most of that stuff pretty quickly I reckon.

With the possible exception of the seatpost, which has a 90kg weight limit, and the pedals there's nowt particularly fragile on there, but admittedly I threw it together as a winter bike (I know, it wasn't meant to end up that well specced, hence why I took it apart again 2 months later) for muddy XC pootling!

Do you use UST specific schwalbes?

Nope, normal Evo ones, find they go up really well.

this is an old picture but not to many changes. I think there's a chance I might be getting a boardman on a cycle scheme so that I can update some of the bits like an ancient rear wheel and my old faithful E4s. The foxs are also off to Argos at the next service interval for a White paint job

I love how someone always says you could struggle to lose weight about a bike…..THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY,also want to say that people need to learn to ride there bikes if there afraid they cant use lighter weight stuff,if tod wedds can ride a 29er coming at 18.7lbs in xl frame and he weighs 12stone….lose weight or learn how to ride more.
sorry guys its the truth and you know it.
Btw my bike is 18.5lbs with light setup and 19.2lbs on park scales training wheels on.
    much love

Each time I see this bike I want it! Makes me think about converting to SS each time as well, in some kind of silly hope that it'll look anywhere near as good 😆
