So what about progressive, on one etc etc etc who do/did it all the time under your noses?

I don't remember starting threads (maybe once?) about the stuff i sell?

Yeah but your login is the name of your business! 😆

Another side of this argument is; what about smaller companies what possibly can't afford advertising cos their profit margins are too small? How do they generate enough business to survive, without being somewhat 'parasitic'?

And small indy outfits like CBM can often get hold of stuff the larger chains don't stock, thus giving us, the consumers, greater choice. Isn't that important?

I have nothing to do with Yeti bikes. I think they're shit.

A lot of usernames do feature the names of bikes though.

And mine's the name of a fruit juice.
[img] [/img]
But I'm not connected to them, your point?
EDIT:

what about smaller companies what possibly can't afford advertising cos their profit margins are too small?

If the product is good and there is a market, word of mouth will help until they learn how to price it correctly. It's a business not a charity, no?

Granted, but isn't there also a sense of 'community' within the bike industry? I mean, shouldn't companies and organisations try to work together for the benefit of all? And if that means the big guys do the little guys a favour now and then, isn't that a good thing?

Or should out and out dog eat dog capitalism reign?

No and No, you're going from one extreme to the other when a happy middle ground can or should be found.
Why should Charlie get the advertising for free, especially when classified sellers are asked to contribute?
Why should STW, when trying to develop a business, be seen as out and out dog eat dog capitalists when the forum is essentially free?

@crikey,

you're missing an important point. CTBM is a specialist shop, run by a genuine enthusiast who loves cycling/singlespeeding and anything bikes.
Without independent shops like his the cycling community would be a MUCH poorer place.
If we all took your attitude then we would all end up riding Specializedzzzz with matching gloves/lids/you name its.

IMO Charlie can advertise (read: send free stuff) as much as he damn well likes.
IYO, just what should the promotional stickers read? ''come to my bike shop''? ''we all like bikes alot''?
No, they need to raise a smile and show that we dont all take life too seriously.
They are perfect promotional ideas. Of course we wont all like them slogans (thats life), but why bother telling everyone that you think they are crap ?(unless your life is that crap?).

Besides, you need something to stock on your tool box..

Long live CTBM.

Best thread in ages... a good few laugh out loud moments... well done all

Next sticker suggestions...

slogans make me cringe

The stickers themselves are... childish and silly... just that they're a bit naff... Puerile and immature, to the extent that I would be embarrassed to display them anywhere.

does this mean I shouldn't bother doing my ironing this evening?

Charlie, ill be putting an order in for the same forks in the next 24hrs...hoping you still have the green disc only version available?...

Gutted I couldn't make your open day BTW, really wanted to try a few rigs out, especially as they were mostly all in the best size (56cm!).
When will you be having another open day?

A "childish and silly" sticker would be great on my bike and just about sum up my riding ethos

Hi, Yep just checked one green salsa 26er fork here.

We really should have another demo day.
Probably towards the end of the summer, maybe after SSWC.
We have talked about taking it on your, away from the fine pubs and beaches of dorset, to Afan or somewhere.

BUT you are welcome to try them anytime... just let us know what you fancy.

Unless the ninjas are proper stealthy and I've just not worked it out yet... I'd suggest you do some ironing as I'm pretty sure I'm still alive.

TSY- they're stealth ninjas, it takes a while to creep all the way your house, just wait and they'll strike like Scargill when you least expect it.
