No. Different pull ratio. I had the same question on here a few years ago.

And too many clicks in the shifter

A nine speed cassette with a ten speed shifter? Nope, spacing between the cogs is different.

Chain will be fine, jockey wheels will be fine. You can use a nine speed mech with a ten speed shifter and vice versa as the pull rate is the same (I’ve had a 9 spd XT mech and a 10spd 105 shifter working together for years).

Saying that, some Tiagra 10spd stuff isn’t compatible, because Shimano.

You need to check this, but AFAIK, mountain 9 speed and 10 speed are not compatible. I think road 10 speed is different to mountain 10 speed. Just because a 105 shifter works with a 9 speed mountain derailleur doesn’t mean that a mountain 10 speed shifter will also work.

The OP needs to buy a 10 speed cassette to get things working properly.

Correct. A ROAD 10sp shifter will work on a 10sp set up using a MTN 9sp rear mech.

MTN 9sp and 10sp are not cross compatible.

And a 9sp cassette will never work with a 10sp shifter.

Ah yes, apologies, I remember now, mountain 10spd is DynaSys, which isn’t compatible with 9spd,  even though road 10spd is, because, you’ve guessed it, Shimano

    A useful chart here: https://www.gevenalle.com/compatability/

I can confirm Shimano 10sp MTB and Microshift Advent X components play very nicely together!

@steezysiz Thanks for that thats good to know as my aging shimano xt mech with rad cage has seen better days and i need something to replace with to cope with the 11-46 cassette.
